Using Childrens' book images on your Art Journal pages.. By Lisa Oxley

Howdy folks, Lisa here with a Sunday mixed media upload.

I have been flicking through old kids books, fairy tales type, and came across this delightful picture of snow white-pre Disney. I particularly love her glorious hair, so I just had to put her in my journal

For this piece I have a square Dylusions journal

and I used white Liquitex gesso to covered the surface.

Cutting around the main image, to remove what I don't want on the page, I added the image to the page using Liquitex matt medium.

Dylusions paint Magenta, Peony

Green Posca

Branch and Leaves Stamp, Script Stamp

White out correction pen.

Tiny Dancer

Hi everyone,

Back again with another LO inspired by this month's mood board. 

 

I started with some old pink patterned paper.   I knew I was going to cover most of it up but I just wanted a subtle colour for the background.   I coated it with some Liquitex gesso  and when dry, mixed some modelling paste with some Dina Wakley paint in Elephant and used that through a flower stencil in my background.   I dry brushed on a bit more paint and rubbed it back with a babywipe, repeating the process until I was happy.   I added some Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist in granite and a little Prima Water colour pencils along with a Stabilo pencil adding water to move them around. 

I used some Cocoa Vanilla Life is Beautiful Alphabet Stickers for my title, some Enamel Accents and Liquid Pearls to form little dots and a scattering of Finnabair Art Ingredients Mica Flakes stuck on with gel medium.

I finished by matting my photo base using some old pattered paper and some embellishments from my stash.

November Moodboard Inspiration with Leonie

Hello! 

I hope by now you have seen our November Moodboard.

If not take a peek below. 

Today I have two Art Journal spreads based on this moodboard.

All entries can be added to the album in our Facebook group

My first share is an Art Journal spread in a Travellers Notebook.

To begin with I used Dylusions Paints and various stencils on the base. 

The paint brush stencil is from Kinder Kreations.  I used Liquitex Super Heavy Gesso with the KK stencil. 

I then pulled out some ephemera and added the woman and butterfly image along with an old stamp. 

Liquitex Matte Gel Medium was used to adhere the ephemera. 

Lastly I outlined the paintbrushes with a black Fude Ball pen and added a typewritten quote and some doodling. 

I was on a bit of a roll by this stage so I put together another little spread.

This one using Crafters Workshop and Flutterbys stencils.

I also used Dina Wakley Collage papers, Washi tape and Acrylic Paints.

Stash Busting Chipboard Alphas with Lisa J

Good morning Scrapping Clearly friends,

Today I am sharing a layout I created after setting myself a challenge to use up some random letters I had left over from the Heidi Swapp Chipboard letters.

I started by adhering the letters to some white cardstock with Gel Medium followed by a liberal coat of clear gesso to the whole background/

Once it was dry I added some colour with Dylusions Sprays in London Blue and Lemon Zest. I applied these with a paintbrush straight from the bottle and let them run.

I loved the colourful messy background this created.

 

I then continued on the stash busting theme digging into my Cocoa Vanilla You Rock leftover papers and stickers.

 

I finished off with a Fabric pennant from Pink Fresh Studio and a Chipboard Frame from Heidi Swapp and some wood veneer stars.

Wild And Free Canvas Panel by Leonie Neal-Dawson

Hello, I hope you all are relaxing and enjoying this Easter Weekend.

Our family generally goes camping this weekend but this Easter we are staying home so have no particular plans. I am thinking maybe fitting in some crafting will be an option..? What do you do over Easter Weekend?

Today I have this canvas panel to share with you. 

"She was life itself, wild and free. Wonderfully chaotic, a perfectly put together mess."

9x12" Canvas Panel 

I used this paper 'Bright and Beautiful 1' by Paper Arts. I liked the pastel tones to this paper and thought they looked a little 'Easter-ish' and that's probably where my Easter theme ends!

I cut the paper into lots of different sized squares and rectangles and collaged them onto 

a 9x12" canvas panel using Liquitex Matte Medium.

Next up I used a black Stabilo Aquarellable pencil to define each rectangle and smudged out the lines with a wet paint brush. Some stamping and splashes of watered down Gesso finished of the base of my canvas panel. 

My Chipboard title piece Wild and Free is by Memory Maze. I incorporated this into my quote

"She was life itself, wild and free. Wonderfully chaotic, a perfectly put together mess."

Can I let you know, 'Mess' is how I was feeling about my title chipboard after adding layer after layer to it

before I finally settled on something I was happy with. 

Liquitex Gesso came first but looked too plain, then it was black ink but I didn't like that either. Texture Paste and Dylusions sprays next - that blended in with the background too much! I was really beginning to think it was going to end up in the bin until I added a couple of coats of  Dylusions White Linen Spray. This last layer covered the bright dylusions pinks, purples and teal...but still left a faint tinge of them showing through, that and the earlier layer of texture paste finally made me happy. Phew, I was getting worried there for a bit. 

I accentuated my panel with these lovely Prima flowers, I like that they also had some feathers and so  tied in with the Wild and Free theme.

Bulky Blooms - Mixed Media Canvas by Leonie Neal-Dawson

Hello and welcome, Leonie here with you.

I'm sharing something a little different with you today, well different from my usual 12x12 page anyway.
My subject today is flowers, specifically, bulky ones. I used to use them often on my scrapbook pages
but for a long time now I've only been using either die-cut or very small flowers. 

 I know there are lots of people who love to use bulky blooms, and do it so well, on their scrapbook pages but for me it's about fitting more pages in my albums. Which category do you fall into?

 There are so many beautiful craft blooms available.

Hands up who has a beautiful collection of Prima Blooms in there stash?! 

But if I'm not using them on my pages much anymore the question is what to do with them?

My answer is a canvas, something I can gift to a friend or use as a piece of home decor.

Kylie recently sent me these gorgeous Prima Marketing Zipper flowers from the Sunrise Sunset range. I knew straight away they were bound for a canvas of some sort. I have had this hessian canvas sitting unloved for a while and thought they would make a good match. So I put them together and am very happy with the result.

I applied Liquitex Super Heavy Gesso with a palette knife randomly to the hessian.  

Once Dry I added some detail to the background with the Mayan Calendar Stencil and The Crafters Workshop Light & Fluffy Modelling Paste. I seriously love using Crafters Workshop modelling

paste, it dries quickly to a nice bright white and is absolutely true to its 'light and fluffy' name. 

 I highly recommend it.

Next up I needed some colour to match that lovely turquoise bloom. I used Vicki Boutin Art Crayons.  My first time using these and they were quite easy to use - I scribbled over the dried Gesso and modelling paste and then used a wet paintbrush to blend and spread the colours around the canvas. To finish off the background I added a few small splashes of Black Ink from Liquitex.

I accompanied the Prima bloom with a set of Chipboard Wings from Dusty Attic.

The Chipboard has a light coat of Gesso applied with a sponge and then Distress Oxide inks Cracked Pistachio, Peacock Feathers and Black Soot.

I used the blending tool foam sponges from ranger to apply the inks.

I then headed to Google for a suitable quote about flying.

I used a lovely Heidi Swapp acetate word in my quote attaching it to the canvas with Glossy Accents.

Christmas Eve Traditions and a Step by Step Tutorial by Leonie Neal-Dawson

Merry Christmas Eve to all of our Scrapping Clearly family.

It's Christmas Eve 2017 and I'm sharing a scrapbook layout with my 2016 Christmas Eve photo!

For many years now I have been taking a picture of my family of six on Christmas Eve.

I try to find different ways to photograph us all but it gets harder and harder each year to think of something new and with three teenagers, and a tween, cooperation as you can imagine is quite a feat!

Hence last year there were no faces just the six of us standing in our Santa Sacks. No need to worry about who is smiling, whose eyes are closed etc.

Do you take an annual Christmas photo? Or have any little Christmas traditions in your family?

I think they're fun and these are the types of memories that stick in my mind when I think of family events.

I've prepared a step-by-step showing the process involved in creating my background for you below.

I began by sketching some trees on Bazzill Marshmallow cardstock. I knew I was going to be adding ink and wet mediums to my page so I wanted a thick cardstock that would withstand lots of wet mediums

and not end up too buckled.

I started adding some colour with different shades of Distress Ink Stains.

Just tapping them inside the boundaries of the trees I had sketched. I used Peeled Paint, Bundled Sage, Shabby Shutters, and Cracked Pistachio. I wasn't too happy with the immediate result and knew that more layers were definitely needed so I added some gesso with a sponge and then some texture paste with a spatula.

I added some more colour on top of the gesso and Texture paste with Twisted Citron Distress Oxide Re-inker and some water to spread it over the trees. Finishing touch was with a Fude Ball pen to outline the trees.

This pen is fantastic to use over mediums like texture paste, ink and gesso.

My photo has been matted on papers from the Bella Blvd Illustrated Faith collection. 

More Distress stains were used to add some colour to the sky, and the tree trunks were coloured with a quick smudge of brown Gelatos.

My Christmas trees have been decorated with enamel dots from Cocoa Vanilla Studios, some sequins and wood veneer stars from my stash.

Well, that's last Christmas Eve's photo scrapped.

I wonder if I can come up with something different for todays' photo?

Wish me luck with getting those teens to cooperate!

Incorporating Photos into my Art Journal

Good Morning Sunshine

Ahhhhhh It's crazy week in my life...

Two Christmas parties at work to cater for, photo shoots for friends, and no time to create anything.

So I asked the amazing girls on the DT team to help me out today and find someone to share something fun and mixed media to add to the joy that is Fridays.

Big thanks to our amazing Boss for stepping up and

 sharing her beautiful piece of scrapping arty goodness. I love those Dylusions sprays .

But to be honest with you, my Fridays just are not the same without loading a blog post.

Today I'm sharing a piece I bashed out late last week.

Just a little Art Journal/Life Journal/Scrap Journal

 entry incorporating a photo into my journal page.

My current full 12"x 12"album count is sitting at 64 and that's a bit of an issue regarding storage.

Sometimes I feel I need to swap up the way I create with regards to scrapbooking,

so now I am more selective about what goes on a 12"x 12" page. 

But I have all these cool photos that I really want to create with, 

yet the space issue still has me in conflict.

Downsizing and introducing my photos into random journal pages instead,

 allows me the freedom to play with my photos and 

not worry about finding a home for another layout.

This is one of those journal entries.

 I started with a journal page smeared with some old clean up brushes and added some Dina Wakley acrylic paint in Turquoise to add a base colour. This page was going to be quick and playful.

I then added a Kinder Kreations Mandala stencil image onto the page, 

in black Ranger Dina Wakley gesso using a sponge for application.

Next a few brush strokes of Liquitex gesso over the center and a little Dina magenta acrylic and back on with the KK stencil to rub back a little of the wet colour to reveal more pattern and detail.

.

Then its about adding a few more layers to the piece starting with

a few pink acrylic smears and a harlequin stencil rub back, 

a piece of book sheet paper behind the focal point and photo,

a little pen work, journaling and doodling to introduce marks & highlight the focal points on the page,

that cool pointed finger stencil from Tim Holtz with Dina Wakley Lapis acrylic,

a shot of sunshine acrylic paint from Art Alchemy over the whole piece,

and then the final piece was adding the fussy cut photo, and finishing up with a scribbled title.

This ones not about perfection, but celebrating that fun photo of Jo flicking me the bird. Hahaaa

Which Artist Inspires you ?

Salutations Bloggers , Lisa here with a Mixed Media update .

Today I am sharing with you the last circle journal ,I have completed in the Scrapping Clearly Circle Journal Swap. And that is the last one ,I have to complete in this swap. 

I really enjoyed the swap process and putting in some heartfelt creative goodness into the pages of each and everyone of the journals that past over my art desk .

The theme of this Journal was Inspiring Artists.

I picked the incredibly talented Australian Artist 

Del Kathryn Barton

Winner of the Archibald Prize in 2008 and 2013.

With so many wonderful layers and details to Dels' incredible work that I am just enchanted by

 the magic of each piece of her incredible work.

 I had planned to just print a few pics and talk about why her work inspires me, but the instructions in the journal asked each participant to attempt to paint in the style of the artist , 

so that is what I did, well sort of .

 I started by rubbing off some DWM paint through a stencil to add some subtle layers to the background , then roughly drew a form and using Liquitex Gesso painted that form onto the page.

Now its all about layering into the piece. More paint, pen, and pencil.

I have a new pen passion,

The Jane Davenport Inkredible Pen.. oh my lordie -insta love.

So a little more detailing with paint , my new pen , prismacolour pencils , a trusty white posca, 

that rad paint brush stamp, and some cutting of extra photos to add a little collage style Del into my own work, and I was happy with the result.

I have added the 2 artworks that inspired and where used within my Del attempt.

I just love the freedom of Collage style creative fun.

 I finished the piece with a few paper clipping from an article about Del and a

 Thickers Black font title .
