Have you been seeing all the #the100dayproject posts on Instagram?

I checked it out after reading Lisa's post and decided to play along.

I chose to do a little art journal page in a traveler's notebook each day using Ranger Archival inks, stencils, and stamps. I picked this format thinking it will be easier to complete something small, knowing my habit of losing interest in things that take too long. They are also readily portable and inexpensive.

A Couple of Multi Photo Layouts by Peg

Hello Arty Peeps.

Life has been so full at my place lately that there has been precious little time or motivation for scrapping. Unfortunately, that doesn't stop the need to get stories in albums, but it does make the process so much more difficult, don't you think?

In an effort to simplify the job I decided to pull out a few things that were the last of a range. I always feel better when I can finish a paper range I have or a pack of something. The sense of completion combined with the anticipation of using something new is a heady mix.

This time it was the fabulous Teresa Collins Something Wonderful range.

I have loved this range so much for its versatility, it is so easy to use for simple pages that look more complex.

I used this paper for my base, this paper for my cards, and matching washi tape to add some energy to my page.

I also had some of the Pink Paislee Fancy Free range left over so I used this paper, added a punched border and some black cardstock, to mat my photos.

My title was done with a Pink Paislee acetate alpha, I added a few enamel shapes (hearts), and stapled things on with my Tim Holtz tiny attacher.

I also used this paper from the Pink Paislee Fancy Free range to start this page.

The other half of this paper became a strip down the middle which I edged using some Hambly transparency, stapled on with my Tim Holtz tiny attacher again.

I was at a loss with how to finish it after adding my typed and dated journal spot so, deciding that it needed more interest in the background, I reached for my Ranger Archival ink pads and some little Heidi Swapp stencils. I added some stamping too with these adorable stamps, and some wood veneer coloured black, both from Cocoa Vanilla Studios. Some star sequins and a cute paper clip finished it off.

This page started to take shape once I'd punched out the edge and mounted it with a black border. I could see exactly what was needed once it was 'framed'. Does this ever happen to you? You're stumped until it's framed?

As a side note, I always save the middle out of the black cardstock backing,

it's handy for matting photos, which I almost always do.

I Smashed This Mini Album - Peg Hewitt

It feels like ages since I was here!

I have been busy working on all sorts of projects from Canvases to art journals, scrapbooking to mini albums.

Like many things, my creative mojo seems to be either all or nothing.

Do you have this issue?

So I am sharing today a Smash album I have started for keeping memories

of adventures with my arty buddy Lisa this year. These little albums are so perfect for this,

big enough to have impact and space for stories, yet small enough to be easily portable.

I began by cutting off the elastic tab, painting the back with black gesso, and the front with Dylusions paints.

I chose these paints because of their incredible vibrancy, they remind me of Lisa.

I made the title from Dymo and my Silhouette.

Then I went to town with some Kaisercraft, Tim Holtz, and Darkroom Door stamps and black Archival ink. I also used some circle stamps with red Archival ink and added black paint around the edges.

For vibrant colour on my pages I used the same colours of Dylusions ink sprays.

My photos were black and white so I could add colour to them too.

The #1 is from a Pink Paislee acetate alpha pack.

I added Heidi Swapp striped tape to each page for continuity, thinking I will choose

a different tape for each adventure, a bit like a colour code.

Because the album pages are not all the same, I used Pink Paislee Fancy Free papers as page mats to have a common theme and colour scheme throughout this adventure.

Cocoa Vanilla vellum accents and stamps are sprinkled throughout the pages, these are so pretty and subtle, I adore how they add so much interest but are really hardly noticeable.

My journal strips are done with correction tape with a doodled black outline,

along with some Tim Holtz chipboard strips.

Heidi Swapp Memorydex cards came in super handy for journal blocks.

Some spare alpha stickers, coloured black, make "all" & "fun".

And arranged so the last page of this adventure is opposite the first page of the next. Nice lead-on.

I cannot wait for the next.

In Search of Mojo - What do you do?

Welcome to March on the Scrapping Clearly blog.

Life has been a bit of a struggle lately and my creative mojo has gone walkabout.

So, inspired by my favourite creative comrade Lisa, I decided to try working with a formula.

Alas, my imagination was also lacking until I remembered these mixed media idea cards I have had for years.

I committed to a play date with my art journal yesterday.

I shuffled the deck and started at the top, no rules except I would use warm colours and whatever I had to hand. The goal was to reacquaint myself with free creative play, it didn't have to be pretty just cathartic.

Here is my first effort

Not so pretty but it got me started in a big way!

Here are the cards I turned up and what I did with them, in order.

- draw or paste a self-portrait                           I drew stick figure style face with a Posca

- add acrylic paint                                             black Ceramcoat

- journal with a permanent pen                         black Posca again

- sew something on                                            twine used to sew on mesh down left side

- draw, paint, or colour a border                        red bingo marker with correction fluid

- add texture paste through a stencil                  Prima copper crackle + TCW mini mosaic

- add fluid paint                                                 watered down orange paint

- use a sponge to dab paint in random places      Dylusions Funky Fuchsia

- include a tag, label, or envelope                      Heidi Swapp kraft tag

- use stickers                                                     Alphas, Simple Stories + CVS

- add washi/tissue tape                                     Tim Holtz music tissue tape

- add a piece of your recycled art

- add an ink wash                                             Dylusions Lemon Zest

Here's a closer look at the stitching,

I'm not too fussed on the mix of colours here but I do like the variety of textures.

While I waited for my other journal to dry I played in my smaller square one.

Here are my cards

- add a silhouette                                   DW TCW stencil + Ceramcoat black

- go wild, choose your own                      I stamped excess paint with a stencil

- rubber stamp                                        DWM faces + Archival ink

- use a colour you typically don't use       purple watercolor

- write with a paintbrush and ink             India ink

- splatter paint                                        crimson watercolor

- doodle                                                  correction fluid around writing

At this point I was quite liking what I had, so I stopped using the cards.

I added some stamping with heart bubble wrap and doodled around the hearts,

then added some yellow watercolour (ink spray) with a wet wipe.

It was a productive play date as it got me started on a mini album I have been planning for a while,

something I'm looking forward to sharing with you later this month.

Why I Art Journal, and a few pages

G'Day Arty Peeps.

This week has been cooler at home, with yellow leaves underfoot,

a delicious hint of Autumn in the air, and a sense of more creative time to come.

I'm looking forward to more indoor play time, how about you?

With my kids growing up and fewer photos to scrapbook I find myself turning to art journals for creative release. They are a place for me to practice with products to see what I like, but also somewhere to explore my thoughts.

Some pages are deeply personal and never shared, others more playful,

still more others meaningful in emotional ways.

I find art journalling cathartic.

So, today I'm sharing just a few of my pages,

Using Collage in My Art Journalling

G'Day Arty Peeps.

It's nearly the end of the month but just before we get a new mood board

I've been having one last play with the colours of the current one.

My art room cleaning and purging has been going well, however,

I keep finding things to play with. 

This time it was a pile of pretty napkins.

Hence this journal spread.

I had this page already started with stencils and Distress Oxide inks,

so it was easy to add the napkin (picture layer only) on top using Matte Medium.

The thin napkin layer becomes transparent when it's wet so you can still see the stencilling underneath.

To blend it in further I added 2 colours of yellow acrylic paint to both pages

- DWM Cheddar and Lemon, and doodled around the stencil shapes with a Fude Ball pen.

Here's another art journal page I've done, inspired by the amazing

Charli Evans, Wrestler. I follow her on Instagram, she is hard-core fabulous!

I did this one in my DWM journal with clippings from a vintage Women's Weekly mag from the 1940's.

It goes from a watercolour page across a burlap page.

I started with strips of paper and white gesso before adding colour with DWM paints Sky, Lime, and Lemon, then adding my magazine pics with Matte Medium.

I blended the images in, and added my title, using permanent inkpads and a blending tool. Words are written with my trusty Fude Ball pen which will write on almost any surface, and white outlines are done with an opaque white pen.

I used black ink through punchinella, and around the edges of the page as a finishing touch.

Peg and Lisa's Epic Art Adventure in Sydney, January 2018- Featuring Rembrandt and Vermeer.

 Howdy Bloggers, Lisa here with a late Scrapping Clearly update.

I've been away, to glorious Sydney, with my soul sister and partner in arty adventures, Peg.

Last week we took a few days out from work and family and 

prioritized ourselves for some quality catch up, and down time.

When is the last time you took time out to do something just for you?

To spend time doing something you love, with someone you love - who's not your other half.

Oh our City of Sydney, "How I miss the tug boats with their fantastic water displays, yeah!"

I once lived in the big smoke, so returning to my old home suburb of Ultimo was not only a sentimental trip down memory lane, but the perfect place to be based, being so close to everything. Perfect choice Peg.

We started our full day of adventure by taking a walk through Angel Place.

This attraction is very close to Martin Place for those keen to find it. It's a small alleyway filled with hanging bird cages. There is a birdsong soundtrack playing over a speaker which sets the tone perfectly for this quirky pit stop on our journey to Circular Quay.

 Oh Sydney Harbour, what a magic space you are.

 The obligatory selfie bridge shot and then onto the amazing Parkers Art Supply shop.

Woooowzers, this place! Nestled in the heart of the Rocks district, it is absolutely bursting at the seams with the most incredible array of beautiful art mediums, substrates, brushes, etc... Art Supply Central people, check out my Instagram here for the walk through of just a few aisles. I could live here. 

Cambridge street is where you will find Parkers.

 Our next pit stop was the Museum of Contemporary Art or the MCA.

I always love to check out contemporary pieces, 

it keeps one inspired and challenges one's perception of Art.

 Quick photo with our extra adventurer today,

 My daughter, Miss 19, decided to join us and spend the day checking out some art. 

Heart love to her, she is a gem to have around at anytime.

 Our next pit stop, and the reason for our trip, was to head over to the Art Gallery of NSW and check out the Dutch Masters Exhibition, particularly the Rembrandt and Vermeer pieces (very few). 

 But first a little back therapy for my colleague, to align and recharge the body,

as it's a bit of a hike through the city, and we were both feeling our age.

 The exhibition itself was interesting and a valued lesson in light and dark.

I'm pretty sure that teal smear isn't supposed to be in this Rembrandt self portrait painting below.

 While we were there, we  took a look at Robert Mapplethorpe adding another exhibition to our arty adventure. Id love to show you more here, but this photographic exhibition didn't photograph at all well, plus the x rated subject matter isn't really for this forum. Definitely google his work if you're interested, or check this out here from my Instagram feed, to view a few pieces.

The gallery retail store is a goldmine of amazing finds.

This baby below is now in my hands (Thanks Peg).

So after a meal with our day guest a,nd a couple of hours relaxing and recharging in awesome Ultimo, we ventured back out into the evening and headed into the city to the Speigel Tent in Hyde park to check out a show on for the Sydney Festival.

And what an incredible show it was.

I realize that with this post you are not getting a regular Mixed Media update, but sometimes one just needs to recharge and have some down time so that creative inspiration is able to flow again.
