Life's too short

Hi everyone

Late with this post as finding it hard to keep track of days as they're blurring into each other.

Just a really quick share on a project that started out with the thought that it was just going to be black and white for the VCC challenge.   

What can I say, it took a turn

I started with some Light & Fluffy through a Darkroom Door stencil and added some Lindy's magical powder in Blazing Black which I spritzed with water.   A little bit of stamping and some Nuvo Glimmer paste through a stencil then other bits and pieces from my stash.  Finished off with some Snarky stickers and outlined the page with my Fude Ball pen (love the way this writes). 

As I said, super quick but satisfying and fun,

Melodies from Down Under - With Karyn Schultz!

Hi Scrapping Clearly Lovelies,

It's Karyn here, and today I have an art journal page to share with you made using lots of goodies available in the Scrapping Clearly Store.

This page is inspired by the Scrapping Clearly Australia Day Cybercrop Challenge 7 - Melodies from Down Under! We would love for you to join the cybercrop and be in the running to win fabulous prizes - you have until Friday February 1 and you enter by uploading your photo to the album in the facebook group here.

I've chose the band INXS (which I remember fondly from my teenage years) and the song "Don't Change" which is all about remaining true to yourself!

I'm using a Small Dylusions journal. I apply Dylusions paints in Black Marble, White Linen and Post Box Red using a mini blending foam. I chose these colours to match with the classic INXS title. 

 

Next I did some stencilling using the Dylusions small staggered brickwork, small triangles and TCW mini tile texture stencil. 

 

I finished the pages with some pics printed from the internet, some cotton thread, tags and Tim Holtz Idea-ology Small Talk word stickers.

Lastly I wrote the words to the song around the edges of my pages with a Fude Ball pen.

Today I'm sharing a fun challenge to assist you in what ever art or craft you partake in.

Is a fun challenge to participate in.

Basically one picks a theme, creates for 100 days straight,

 hashtags it, and shares with the creative community!

I can hear the gasp of shock from some, but really, it doesn't have to be a scary prospect,

 rather a personal challenge just to do something everyday.

It is an Instagram challenge, 

but one doesn't have to be on Instagram to partake in the fun, 

of course you could just start creating for yourself.

  This challenge started on April 3rd.

Why I Art Journal, and a few pages

G'Day Arty Peeps.

This week has been cooler at home, with yellow leaves underfoot,

a delicious hint of Autumn in the air, and a sense of more creative time to come.

I'm looking forward to more indoor play time, how about you?

With my kids growing up and fewer photos to scrapbook I find myself turning to art journals for creative release. They are a place for me to practice with products to see what I like, but also somewhere to explore my thoughts.

Some pages are deeply personal and never shared, others more playful,

still more others meaningful in emotional ways.

I find art journalling cathartic.

So, today I'm sharing just a few of my pages,

I have listed products under each image, in order of use.

Playing with products, seeing what I can layer onto what without making a big mess.

Using Collage in My Art Journalling

G'Day Arty Peeps.

It's nearly the end of the month but just before we get a new mood board

I've been having one last play with the colours of the current one.

My art room cleaning and purging has been going well, however,

I keep finding things to play with. 

This time it was a pile of pretty napkins.

Hence this journal spread.

I had this page already started with stencils and Distress Oxide inks,

so it was easy to add the napkin (picture layer only) on top using Matte Medium.

The thin napkin layer becomes transparent when it's wet so you can still see the stencilling underneath.

To blend it in further I added 2 colours of yellow acrylic paint to both pages

- DWM Cheddar and Lemon, and doodled around the stencil shapes with a Fude Ball pen.

Here's another art journal page I've done, inspired by the amazing

Charli Evans, Wrestler. I follow her on Instagram, she is hard-core fabulous!

I did this one in my DWM journal with clippings from a vintage Women's Weekly mag from the 1940's.

It goes from a watercolour page across a burlap page.

I started with strips of paper and white gesso before adding colour with DWM paints Sky, Lime, and Lemon, then adding my magazine pics with Matte Medium.

I blended the images in, and added my title, using permanent inkpads and a blending tool. Words are written with my trusty Fude Ball pen which will write on almost any surface, and white outlines are done with an opaque white pen.

I used black ink through punchinella, and around the edges of the page as a finishing touch.

Friends Make the World Beautiful - A Layout by Kylie Tout

Morning Scrappingclearly friends - I hope you have all had a wonderful weekend....

My layout today is super bright and happy and truly depicts these two girls and their friendship!

This layout was based around a new paper range that Scrappingclearly has arriving soon to the website.

Paper Arts is designed in New Zealand, I really love this paper range.

Be sure to keep an eye out in the store.

I have used Whimsical 2, both sides are awesome I really wanted to use both sides......

To add more depth and dimension I used some prepared cardstock which I had sprayed with Dylusions and stencils. I cut a circle shape and added some Lipstick Colour Blast texture paste with a stencil to create a dimensional pattern and set aside to dry. Once dry I detailed around the edge with a Black Stabilo pencil 

      

I used surgical gauze sprayed with Postbox Red Dylusions Spray and set aside to dry.

Using Viva Inka Gold Copper and a sponge, I coated a chipboard element.

A TIP when using the Inka Gold Copper Rub - just remove a small amount with a clean cloth, not your finger, so that you aren't introducing any bacteria.

There is not a lot of preparation in this layout with the background paper being already so arty.... so the next thing is to start layering the layout.

I adhered a piece of old book paper, with green paint which has been watered down, to the background paper.

Next is the previously made circle, with texture paste and the Surgical Gauze.

Then the photo on top of all layers.

            

Once all layers were down I embellished with Enamel Dots and a metal butterfly, along with some Tim Holtz small talk stickers and the Copper Coated Chipboard embellishment.

Of course the last detail was to journal, which I have completed with, of course, a Black FudeBall pen.

Believe In Yourself - With Karyn Schultz!

Happy New Year Scrapping Clearly Lovelies!!! 

It's Karyn here and today I have a scrapbook page to share with you,

made using lots of fun products available in the Scrapping Clearly Store. 

I created this page for the Scrapping Clearly 10th birthday cybercrop

where one of the challenges was to create a page which was 85% white,

pink and black accents.

I started with some white cardstock and using a palette knife,

I added Dina Wakley acrylic paint (black and magenta),

BoBunny glitter paste - Tutu, and Viva Inka gold - rose-quartz in places on my page.

I love the effects of the different mediums contrasting and complementing each other!! 

Next, I matted a white paper doily and pink cardstock behind my photo,

and attached it to the page. 

I added a variety of background stamps with a Ranger Archival black ink pad,

in places near my photo and, under where I intended to put embellishments.

Next, I added some Heidi Swapp Color Magic Paper Goods ephemera

and word stickers from Tim Holtz Idea Ology Small Talk Sticker Book.

Lastly, I outlined my page with a black Fude Ball pen and hand wrote the date.

I Play With Dolls (In My Art Journal), Do You?

Howdy folks, Lisa here, with my final mixed media blog for 2017...

and what a fun creative playful year its been.

So to finish off, I am not going to run through my favorites of the year,

 but show you some new work that has been keeping me sane over the festive period,

usually not much time to sit and create so its just about enjoying me time and de-stressing.

I am absolutely loving the Tim Holtz Paper Dolls... they are too much fun to create with.

Here are a few different ways I have incorporated them into my Art Journal pages. 

I started with a Dylusions Journal, some DWM Acrylic paint in Ocean and Sky, and a small brayer.

 and added a DWM Stencil and rubbed back the paint using a wet wipe

 After the acrylic paint was dry, I stamped a few lines of harlequin print across the page,

using StazOn in Black and Blue Hawaii.

 I then added a few extra subtle stamped script (my go to), and took to the page with my Fudeball pen.

 Using a transparent clock face I added colour to the plastic element with

 Alcohol Ink and blending solution.

Then to work on the focal point, and placement.

I added a paper element in the background and a little paint over the top

to work the elements together. *essential if you added elements later to your design.

 I also added a few Jane Davenport washi Tape stickers on to the page, and began to put together my piece.

A piece of cheesecloth or muslin to soften the page and add a textural element.

The clock face and the Tim Holtz Paper doll Twins... ain't they cute?

I added a little alcohol ink to their dresses.

And the baby on the left for balance, and that essential third element.

 Awww the baby, she is adoreable.

I added a 'lil neon paint to her dress to lift and give her life.

 And this piece, same formula, with a few more mark making elements and I am hooked.

Recycled bunting for party hats.

 Even the dog needed to be festive.

And that is me for another year at Scrapping Clearly.

I want to send a big Thank You to Kylie and the SC team,

all my creative partners in crime - Jo and Kim and

especially my epic arty companion and creative muse Peg,

whom I don't have the words to express my joy for the connection we have.

All the women who I have luckily shared time with this year through creative retreats and events...
