Shine

Hi everyone.   

I'm super excited to have been invited to join this very talented DT.   So here is my 1st LO inspired by this month's gorgeous mood board.

I started with some old My Minds Eye patterned paper.   I masked off a portion of a Dina Wakley Jungle stencil with some washi tape and scrapped some modelling paste through with a palette knife.   I then cleaned the stencil, flipped it over and repeated the process.   This is a great way of making more use of your stencils.

I did some random stamping using a 49 & Market stamp with some Fossilized Amber Distress ink and some navy water based ink.   I sprinkled on some Colour Blast shimmer dust in navy and gave it a light spritz with water.

I grabbed a few wood veneer leaves from my stash and rubbed them (using my finger) with Indian gold Nuvo embellishment mousse.   I then added a touch of Viva Inka Gold in Haematite on the leaves and on the modelling paste so it would stand out.

I sprayed some cheese cloth with some Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist and then stuck it all down with a little bit of gold thread thrown in for good measure.

I finished by adding my title, a gorgeous Heidi Swapp acetate word and a scattering of Finnabair Art Ingredients Mica Flakes stuck on using gel medium.

Page in the making - with DT Katie Howard

Good Morning! How are we all today? I have to admit that I am crazy busy now with a daughter finishing up year 12, new job commitments and the rest of the usual crazy for this time of year. So I thought I would do something a little different and bring you a page in two parts. Today I will show you the background that I created and then next time the page that I created with that background!

So, this page started with inspiration of colours from this months Mood Board:

Full of luscious reds, pinks, peaches and corals. So what is a girl to do but pull out her paints in these sorts of colours! I selected some Dylusions and Dina Wakely paints in these colours: Peony Blush, Rose Quartz, Tangerine Dream, Ruby and Penny. Next I pulled out some stencils, the ones that I used were Dina Wakely in Wallpaper and Jungle, but there are so many to choose from! Last of all I pulled out my small gel press plate, the one I have is a 3x5 size, but you can get a set of different sizes from Ranger which would be perfect also. Don't forget your brayer for the gel plate! Then I got started!

I basically used my gel plate on a stamp block like a stamp, I didn't do anything but layer some paint  on with my brayer and stamp onto my background cardstock, just creating random blocks of colour and changing the orientation from press to press, overlapping along the way and this is what I finished with:

At this stage I let it dry a bit and pulled out a script stamp and some black ink (archival ink is perfect for this job) and stamped randomly on the page. After the stamping I grabbed the jungle stencil, loaded my gel plate with the penny (a bronze colour) paint and stamped it through onto my page.

To finish off I grabbed the wallpaper stencil, some black paint and then used a foam brush to add some detail through the stencil. Once dry I grabbed my white dylusions paint pen and made some outlines around the black for some more detail. This is the final result:

Now my background is ready to go, just to find photos and figure out a design! So tune in next time to see what I create with this background!

Cathartic Art - An Art Journal step by step.

I've had some me time this week, unfortunately due to a shoulder issue, and so I've been taking it easy.

On top of a little home therapy and physio, I allowed myself time to create.

This piece is a dedicated HeART piece that goes out to my dad.

Taken from our family in 1972, in the prime of his life, 29 years old,

 the youngest Head Lighthouse keeper in Australia.

When I started this piece, I didn't really know where it was heading, 

it just evolved into the work below.

I started with a smear of DWM Black Gesso across a double page using a palette knife,

 inside a Ranger Dylusions Square Journal.

Using a DWM Bee Hive honeycomb stencil and a babywipe, I wiped off some paint

while also imprinting the stencil image across the page. Drying time,

then a few pieces of ripped gelli plate tissue paper in tangerine and lemon was adhered with matt medium.

After more drying time, I took to the page with my thin black pen and drew a few branches and leaves

and filled them in with Inktense water colour pencils

(inspired by the incredibly beautiful details in Del Kathryn Bartons work).

 Then I needed to add some colour. I started with a little Golden Neon Pink, some DWM magenta, and some DWM turquoise, again using a spatula and the beehive stencil to reinforce the pattern. Next a little DWM Gesso, to tone it all down a little (yes, very unlike me). 

Then a few marks onto the page.

1. Red dashes in Prismacolour pencils.

2. Inked circles in black using a Darkroom Door background stamp.

3. Random lines right across the page, from one side to the other using a fudeball black pen.

4. A few random mini flowers among the leaves with inktense pencils and graphic pen.

5. DWM "Stop Thinking, Just Create " from the splatter girl stamp set.

 At this point, I felt I needed to pump up the contrasting black element,

to reinforce the honeycomb pattern and provide a journal spot opportunity.

The "LEFT" letters I cut from a random magazine clipping.

I also felt that the lighthouse needed a lift so, after detailing it with my fudeball black pen,

I added radiant beams with an old circular stencil from Studio Calico (*i think) and Colourblast Sunshine texture paste. 

*****COLOURBLAST PASTES when used in your journal,

 MUST be covered with Dorlands wax medium to avoid the pages sticking together. Unfortunately I closed this book before sealing (with 2 days drying time open) and have returned to a torn page , which I now have to fix and seal.

One Beautiful Mess -Creating Handmade Mini Art Journals

back again with a Friday mixed media update.

Today I am sharing with you this cool little handmade Art Journal I created

when I returned home from the annual Gundi Scraptacular.

After giving to others teaching, I had to give back to myself.

Oh the fun of free play, the joyful recharge it gives, creating just for yourself,

these things can not be underestimated.

So atm, we are in the process of redecorating and my creative space is frustratingly limited.

I have also been loving using the smaller of the Ranger Dylusions Journals, a smaller work surface means quicker pieces, and after creating handmade journals in Gundi,

I was keen to bust into making workable smaller handmade journals to create within...

Using a plethora of whatever was across my table

I have put together this little album by grabbing a sheet of cardstock, folding it twice, then cutting and stapling it together. It's marshmallow cardstock and did require a little coaxing into place.

I secured the piece with a thicker, cloth washi tape on the spine as a binding and also through the middle to support the whole journal.

 I start with a simple painty background and

 usually use a stencil to add detail without dimension.

 Then a few different stamped images across the page

 - it's rad when you use a smaller journal and your stamps 

really become cool interest points upon your piece, instead of disappearing into the background.

A little layering of extra card or random cutouts onto your page and details with Posca and other pens usually finish the overall look, and I'm happy to move onto another piece.

 I love creating these little journals so much that I've started another.

Happiness on my mind- Details of an Art Journal Page

Howdy Folks , Lisa here with a Friday Mixed media update , 

Today I am sharing with you how I bring a little more detail and fine tuning to an art journal piece.

For this example I'm using a piece that I started at my friend's place last week, and I didn't get too far with it on the day, so yesterday I got to revisit and pimp my page.

I'm using a small Dylusions journal, I do have to say, that I used to see people using the smaller journal

and question, why exactly one would want a smaller journal rather than a bigger one. Now, truth be told, I am slightly addicted to this size atm, I can take it anywhere and less size means using less, and quicker results.

 The Background is really just a few rubbed through stencils to create some easy marks in black and then I added scallops and circles of pink neon Golden paint, a Dina Wakley scribbly face stencil as the focal point,
some Jade Prima Impasto, and a paintbrush from the new Kinder Kreations Art Stash stencil,
(ask Kylie to order it if you want it - I am addicted to mine atm

 I have used the Dina face stencil as a guide line, and cut the face shorter (so it wasn't as long) by adding extra jade impasto. I then added a little more detail and colour into the face with white Liquitex gesso, and a magic pencil-(Stabilo black Aquarelle), a blue posca for the eye, and a white sharpie for the catch light,
also a little pink paint for the lips.

 I added a little more detail around the page by imposing more marks on freshly painted Prima apple green impasto, and then detailed it with a black Fude Ball pen when it was dry.

 I also added an extra row of scallops, a little detail on and down the side of the brush, and a touch on her lips, in impasto pumpkin, to bring more colour and layering into the piece.

At this point, I added the journaling down the side and the title "Happiness on my mind".

 A little more pen detail around the face and eyes, eyelashes etc... and I am happy with the results.

This month I'll be creating with the Bella Blvd Illustrated Faith collection.  A perfect collection for me this month as my daughter will be making her confirmation next week so I'm sure I'll have plenty of photos to scrap of that occasion. 

In the meantime though I chose to scrap some selfies of one of my sons and myself.   All the b-sides of this collection are bright fun patterns and not necessarily Christian related so suitable for any photos you like. 

I did some layered stencilling on this Black and White music note paper using Dylusions Paints.

Hello from Leonie - New Design Team Member

Hello! 

My name is Leonie Neal-Dawson and I'm so excited to be posting today on the Scrapping Clearly blog!  Kylie Tout, owner and talented artist at Scrapping Clearly asked me if I would like to join her team of super scrappy Design Team peeps and I was and am extremely happy to say Yes, yes please!

A quick little Bio for you:

I live in Geelong, Victoria and am married with four children. A son (aged 16), Twin boys (aged 14) and a Daughter (aged 12). Our life is busy and crazy at times but it is what it is and I would not want to change a thing.  Apart from all the usual Mum-life activities I work night shift as a Nurse and in between that I squeeze in  paper crafting whenever I can.  Scrapping wise I like to turn my hand to a variety of different styles.  I live my layered, pretty patterned paper pages just as much as a brightly coloured/stencilled/textured mixed media style page.  Put them together and it's a match made in heaven. 

So here I am my first post.

Kylie sent me some gorgeous products last weeks and I got busy creating this page using the Simple Stories - Carpe Diem paper range.   

This range is so me, I love bright colours and if I can put all the colours on a page why the heck not!

Carpe Diem has combination of B&W pattens plus beautiful brights.

I chose to scrap some photos of a small Magnolia tree I have.  I wait all year for it to bloom and it only ever lasts for a few weeks but it is just stunning and is usually the first sign that winter is almost over which for me is reason enough to celebrate!

As you can see I've used white card stock as a base and layered a diagonally cut B&W script paper (its actually to B-side of the 'Make it Happen' paper) across the bottom half of my page. 

My title 'Heavenscent' uses gold foil American Crafts Thickers Shoebox.

As with most Simple Stories ranges the Carpe Diem collection has a delightful set of Chipboard Frames to coordinate with the papers.  I've used four on this page to border my photos.  I love the bright colours of the frames on the black and white paper. 

To accent my page I've used some of the Carpe Diem Chipboard stickers.  the word today and a bunch of flowers layered under my photo's and a cluster in the top left to balance out my page along with a pink bloom from my scrappy stash. 

 I have one more share today.  I wanted to do a page based on the Scrapping Clearly mood board this month and because I got carried away with all the colours on my Heavenscent page it didn't really match!  So I whipped up a quick page with my favourite background technique at the moment which is to layer a few different stencilled patterns using paints.   And my favourite paints at the moment are Dina Wakley's Heavy Body Acrylic Paint.  I just love their vibrant colour.  

I teamed it up with B&W chipboard frames and papers from the Carpe Diem collection.
