Page in the making - with DT Katie Howard

Good Morning! How are we all today? I have to admit that I am crazy busy now with a daughter finishing up year 12, new job commitments and the rest of the usual crazy for this time of year. So I thought I would do something a little different and bring you a page in two parts. Today I will show you the background that I created and then next time the page that I created with that background!

So, this page started with inspiration of colours from this months Mood Board:

Full of luscious reds, pinks, peaches and corals. So what is a girl to do but pull out her paints in these sorts of colours! I selected some Dylusions and Dina Wakely paints in these colours: Peony Blush, Rose Quartz, Tangerine Dream, Ruby and Penny. Next I pulled out some stencils, the ones that I used were Dina Wakely in Wallpaper and Jungle, but there are so many to choose from! Last of all I pulled out my small gel press plate, the one I have is a 3x5 size, but you can get a set of different sizes from Ranger which would be perfect also. Don't forget your brayer for the gel plate! Then I got started!

I basically used my gel plate on a stamp block like a stamp, I didn't do anything but layer some paint  on with my brayer and stamp onto my background cardstock, just creating random blocks of colour and changing the orientation from press to press, overlapping along the way and this is what I finished with:

At this stage I let it dry a bit and pulled out a script stamp and some black ink (archival ink is perfect for this job) and stamped randomly on the page. After the stamping I grabbed the jungle stencil, loaded my gel plate with the penny (a bronze colour) paint and stamped it through onto my page.

To finish off I grabbed the wallpaper stencil, some black paint and then used a foam brush to add some detail through the stencil. Once dry I grabbed my white dylusions paint pen and made some outlines around the black for some more detail. This is the final result:

Inspired by the Mood Board Part 2 - with DT Katie Howard

Hello there! I am back here today with the second installment of my how to take inspiration from mood boards, with a focus on our monthly mood board.

My previous page took inspiration from some of the greens and the circles from the top image on the board. Today, my inspiration is taken in part from the bottom right picture, the squares, and also from all of the greens through the images, but I also decided to include some browns as seen in the two of the bottom pictures, for some contrast.

Before I got started I decided to create my own patterned paper using my gel press, paint and stencils. Here is an assortment of the prints that I finished with, some on light card and some on deli paper.

I chose a mixture of patterns and colours from the prints on the light card and cut 3 in x 3 in squares to form the background of my page. On some of these squares I stamped using some Ground Espresso distress oxide ink and background texture type stamps to add some interest and to break up the green a bit more.

As well as stamping I used some paint pens to outline some of the shapes on the prints. I layered my photos on some brown cardstock with some of the deli paper prints and then layered this on some plain deli paper to help it stand out more from the background. I also used my tab punch to create some tabs to tuck into the layers of my photo mat, and to make sure these stood out I used a white paint pen to outline them.

Can you see the square where I added some printed deli paper over the top of the pattern? The deli paper is like tissue paper and is transparent when glued down so you can see the pattern below as well as what is printed on top. I picked up some generic branded grease proof paper from the supermarket and it works really well for this.

I used some Tim Holtz Idea-ology stickers as my journaling, consider this my "cheat" when I want to add something but don't necessarily have a big or interesting story to tell!

For my title I used some charcoal thickers as they were neutral on a bright and busy page, but to make them stand out a little more I outlined the word using a green paint pen from the first Dylusions paint pen set. The blue paint pen came from set number two, these are awesome paint pens too! 

So, there we go, same mood board, similar colours but a completely different page. I hope you tune in for my final creation inspired by the mood board later this month!

Simple HeART Therapy

Salutations Bloggers and Scrapping Clearly Devotees,

Lisa here with a heartfelt mixed media update,

Its been a massive week for me,a week where,

I poured my Heart and Soul into my Task,

with personally rewarding positive results.

So today, I finally had a few hours to create and unwind.

Back into my Dina Wakley Mixed Media Art Journal for some art therapy.

 HeART Therapy ,no less.

 For this creative piece , I started with this pack of AC Heidi Swapp Marquee Love pattern papers and cut myself 5 hearts different in various sizes and edged the sides in black Staz On ink.

I painted one of the canvas pages with Dylusions acrylic paint in

  Cherry Pie and Crushed Grape and placed the hearts on the page.

 After evaluation I decided to take the paint across the page and place the hearts in the middle..

 A simple Heidi Swapp Word stencil and some super fab, non stick, NOUVO shimmery textured mousse gave the mixed page background more detail and support to the main theme.

 And it sparkles .

 I always have wings,shapes, hearts , butterflies etc ,cut out and waiting for different projects , so out comes a large set of wings made on Marshmallow Cardstock with a dylusion ink background, 

a CWS wings stencil and Prima Black sand texture paste .

A central butterfly from Jollygirl to finish and add punch to the focal point.

Art Journalling - With Karyn Schultz!

Hi Scrapping Clearly Lovelies!!! 

It's Karyn here and today I have some Art Journal pages to share with you, made using lots of arty goodies from Scrapping Clearly. 

These are some of my pages in one of the paper bag journals for the "Circle Journal" group I'm in.

I've used Dylusions paints (fresh lime, bubble gum pink, calypso teal, white linen, black marble) applied with a Ranger mini-ink blending tool.

Next I use some stencils to apply the same colour paints across the pages. I also use a variety of different sized round lids to stamp paint (white and black) across the pages.  

Then I've stamped various stamps across the page and around the borders. I've used the white Dylusions paint pen to draw some circles in clusters on my page - these pens are fabulous!! Lastly I smeared black Gelato around the edge of the pages with my finger.

I also created a tag using the same techniques - I just love how it turned out. I prefer the smaller size of a tag compared to a journal page :)

Circle Journal page by Tania

Hi again, I'm back today, filling in for one of our other DT members, and I want to share my latest Circle Journal page with you, inspired by this month's moodboard! I love this moodboard, the colours are totally me! Here it is:

For those of you who don't know, we here at Scrappingclearly are involved in a 12 month Circle Journal swap. We have each created our own Journals out of paper bags, created a cover and title page, and then we pop them in the mail and send on to the next person in our group. At the end of 12 months, we will have them returned to us, with 12 amazing entries from other crafty peeps! I cannot wait to get mine back at the end of the year!

So I am working in another member's journal this month. This is what they look like before you begin!

And then after the first few layers of Gesso, acrylic paint and some stencil work.....

I swiped my paint on using an old credit card, I really like the effects you can achieve!  The next layer was using more acrylic paint and bubble wrap as a stamp!

I then wanted to add a layer of stamping, which I did with a coffee stain stamp and some Archival ink in black!

On the next image you can see a little more of the texture leaf pattern which was achieved using one of my favourite, Dylusion's stencils, the Leafy flourish.

I mixed a little of the powder from a Lindy's Starburst Colour shot , into some texture paste to get a shade of green!

After all the colour mediums went on, I stamped some of the cute birds from the 

Dylusions, Put a bird on it, stamp set, onto a piece of Maggie Holmes, Open Book paper, PAGES. I coloured them in with markers and stuck them on the page. The strip of patterned paper is from the Shimelle Starshine scraps I had left over and the quote is also fussy cut from the Shimelle, ASTRO, paper!

You can see here, I added some detail to my stamped black circles, using a few different paint pens. I have the fine, Dylusions paint pens and a thick Posca paint pen. Just love them!!!

To finish it off, I added some journal lines with a marker, and journaled to the theme of this person's book, which is: PIECES OF ME! You will see, I couldn't help myself and added more black circles, this time using the lid from one of my paint dabbers, and some Archival ink!!! (Love getting the most out of all my stash!)

And here is the end result, all ready to pop in a bag and send it on to the next happy crafter!!!!
