For the Boys - Traveler's Notebook Spreads | Sue Plumb

Hi everyone! It's Sue Plumb here with my latest guest designer project to share with you. You might recall that last week I shared a pretty floral 12x12" layout (you can see it HERE); so for this week I decided to go in an entirely different direction with some boy themed traveler's notebook (TN) spreads.

My love for TNs has really grown over the past 12 months, as I approach this format quite differently to the "traditional" layouts I do. These little books are less about the process, and more about getting the memories down so I include a lot more journalling. For today's post I was working in one of my sons books and getting a couple of stories recorded for him.

I started this spread with a piece of leftover patterned paper from another project, so I thought I would take the opportunity to use it up on this. (This is a great way to use up scraps.) The paper I used was the I Love You paper from the Simple Stories 'Heart' collection, and I placed a piece on either side of my spread as my base.

The next step was to arrange my photos and my printed journalling. (I pre-print my journalling so I know exactly how much space it will need on the page.) Just like a larger layout, once I have those things in place, it's simply a case of filling in space with embellishments. For this spread I was working with the Ephemera Pack from the Pinkfresh Studio 'Boys Fort' collection. 

All the embellishments you can see on this spread are from the same Ephemera Pack; and I simply shuffled through the pack and found ones that work work to fill the spaces on my page. The final step to finish off my spread was to add some spots to the white space using a very fine grey felt pen.

For my second spread, I again began with my background. This time I used a scrap of the Treasured Memories paper (also from the Simple Stories 'Heart' collection); along with a scrap of the Happy Go Lucky paper from the Cocoa Vanilla Studio 'Boys Rule' collection. 

This time I also matted my main photo with the same Cocoa Vanilla Studio patterned paper to help it stand out more on the page. Again, I placed my photos and journalling before turning my attention to the embellishments.

I used the same Pinkfresh Studio 'Boys Fort' Ephemera Pack to embellish this page as I did for the previous spread. This time however, I needed an extra pop of blue so I fussy cut some blue stars from the Starshine paper from the Cocoa Vanilla Studio 'You Rock' collection (using my awesome limited edition gold Fiskars scissors).

I finished off my spread by stamping some little banners using StazOn black ink and a roller stamp from my stash; and with some doodling using fine tip felt pens.

I hope I have inspired you with some ideas for the next time you get creative - maybe try the traveler's notebook format if you haven't already, or even just create something masculine?

Hello! Another month means a new challenge: “Think Green”!

Green is everywhere, of course – in nature, on a sleek old British racing car, or captured on something new and modern!

Recently, my youngest played his first football grand final. It happened to be a very cold and wintery Sunday morning, with hail! The poor little footballers had to run around in their shorts and footy tops!

First, on some white cardstock, with an old gift card, I smeared Dylusions paint in ‘cut grass’ Dina Wakley Media Heavy Body Acrylic Paint in ‘Lime’. 

For the circular splatters I used Tim Holtz Distress Stain in ‘mowed lawn’. With the hand-die-cut clouds I haphazardly applied Dylusions Ink Spray in ‘Fresh Lime’ with the stalk from the bottle. 

Once the background mediums had dried, I stamped the background with a Kaisercraft clear stamp with a Ranger Archival ink pad in ‘Emerald Green’.

Now to break up all this green, I used a Carabelle Studio Art Stamp – ‘Edges in My Journal’ – my favourite stamp at the moment 😊. To prevent the stamp ink from being smudged, I used a Tsukineko StazOn Archival Solvent Ink in black. 

For the white splatters, I used the Tim Holtz Distress Spray Stain in ‘Picket Fence’

Then it was time to adhere my photo down. For the photo border I used Cocoa Vanilla Studio ‘You Rock’ die-cut Ephemera. 

In this little cluster here, I have used some strips of Cocoa Vanilla Studio – ‘Boys Rule’ straight and narrow paper and a ‘Tis the Season’ Bitty Bow. The sequins and black thread are from my stash.

 

Finally, for the title, ‘Brrrrr’ – is from the Cocoa Vanilla Studio ‘You Rock’ Ephemera collection: the letter ‘B’ was used and the ‘r’s were die-cut from black cardstock in my stash.

It was fun making this simple mixed media page. I do hope come on board and have a go with this month’s mood-board challenge: think green!

Impatiently waiting for Boys Rule and Revisiting You Rock from Cocoa Vanilla

Hello Scrapping Clearly friends it is Lisa J here today,

Who is excited for the new Cocoa Vanilla Boys Rule collection to hit the store. I know I am. It is so stinking cute.

But while we wait, I thought I would re-visit some layouts I haven't shared here yet made from Cocoa Vanilla's last boy range You Rock. Cocoa Vanilla just get it so right with boy ranges. 

First up, a layout using a ton of wood veneer from the collection (plus some extra random pieces form my stash). The patterned paper strip across the layout is actually the packaging from the Collection Pack.

This layout was a lot of fun to create and I even coloured some of the pieces with markers. I liked the contrast between the plain and the coloured.

And secondly a layout using the diecut pieces and amazing rubber charms. 

The colourful mixed media in the background was created with Distress Oxides in Faded Denim and Spiced Marmalade.

Have you still got some You Rock in your stash? I have to admit I do have multiples of all of it (but I do have four boys in my defence).

Cards for the Boys with Lisa J

Hi everyone,

My boys always seem to be going to birthday parties lately and my stash of premade cards was dwindling
so I took some scraps from the gorgeous Cocoa Vanilla You Rock collection and some kraft cardstock
and set about making some cards.

Bright, fun, and quick - exactly my type of birthday card.

The first card, 100% Awesome, I personalised for my soon to be 14 year old.
I have added some stickers from the You Rock Accessory Sticker Sheet, a wood veneer star,
enamel dots and some Thickers for the 14.

 For the second card I fussy cut some stars, added offcut strips of paper and washi strips, together with some more wood veneer pieces and tiny letter stickers.

I decided to try colouring the wood veneer with markers for the next card.
They turned out pretty cute.

Enamel shapes, thickers, wood veneer and lots of paper strips made up the next card. I love to use up all my left over bits and pieces.

And lucky last card I added some cute sequins.

Do you make cards with your leftovers before you clear the desk for the next project?
I am trying to make sure I do before my scrap bin overflows even further.

Stash Busting - Washi Tape with Lisa J

Hello scrappy friends and welcome to another week of inspiration on the Scrapping Clearly blog.

Today I am sharing a layout I created to bash some of my ever growing stash of washi tapes. Plus I had an almost complete pack of the Cocoa Vanilla You Rock Washi Stickers left and they were way too cute not to use.

Something I am trying to work on this year is using the pretty stuff while I love it. It is so much better to have these gorgeous products used on a page where we can enjoy them than sitting in our stash gathering dust. Do you agree? Is it time to get busy busting that stash? We all need to make room for all the gorgeous new releases (don't forget you can pre-order here).

So with my plan to use my Washi strips and tapes, I started by printing a large star on white cardstock.

I laid out my strips (adding some Black and white striped washi from my stash) filling in the star and adding the offcuts to a corner to be punched out later.

Once complete I cut out my star and used a star punch to make some extra embellishments.

Next step, I took some Bazzill Marshmallow cardstock and created a background behind where my star would sit. I used some ink sprays with the packaging technique and smooshed it on to the background. I added some stamping with black archival ink for added interest.

I added some extra strips of washi across the bottom of my page too.

I outlined my star with a black Posca pen and then added my photo and extra embellishments.

The little quotes came from the washi stickers as well.

Hello Cute - A Scrapbook layout with Lisa J

Hello all, 

My turn today to share my last project for January with the Cocoa Vanilla You Rock Collection. I have loved working with this collection and I hope you have enjoyed the projects I have shared.

For my last January layout I started with the B-side of the Experimental paper. The gorgeous watercolour style blue ombre just had to be a background.

I added some strips of patterned paper down the left hand side as a base for my photo and embellishments and then just started adding bits and pieces.

There are so many embellishments in the Cocoa Vanilla You Rock collection and they just work together so well.

I finished off with some sprinkles of Heidi Swapp ColorShine in Navy and some enamel dots. My title uses Wood Veneer from the You Rock collection and Teal Puffy Thickers from American Crafts.

Oh Hello Sugar Rush, Scrapbook Layout with Lisa J

Hello there,

It's the beginning of another week already. Only one more week of School Holidays for my boys. Even though the boys are home, I seem to have so much more creative time in the holidays. I will be sad to see them go back to School.

The first weekend of the School holidays, my youngest son Sam and I took a trip to Pokolbin to visit family. We  discovered the Sabor Dessert Bar. Oh it was heaven (so much so that we may have visited twice in two days). If you are ever in the Hunter Valley region I would highly recommend it. But enough of food and back to today's layout.

I started the layout off with white cardstock and a large triangle of one of my absolute favourite papers from the Cocoa Vanilla You Rock Collection "Starshine". I added machine stitching and roughed up the edges with my fingernails but a distress tool would be better for your manicure.

I made a tag from the gorgeous wood veneer pattern B side of the Plus One paper to tuck amongst my layers of patterned paper and die cuts. Some fussy cut stars were sprinkled about for added embellishments.

I added some red tile alphabet stickers from my stash to complete my title. You can find alternative alphabet stickers in the Scrapping Clearly store.

I finished off with a few staples with my tiny attacher and the layout was done. Quick and easy. I love it when the papers do the work for you.

And yes, Sam really was on a sugar rush after devouring three macaroons washed down with a lemonade (luckily for me, he drove home with my sister).

November sketch - with Chloe

😊 Hello there Scrappers!

I hope you are all enjoying the challenges this month - and maybe you found time to play along with our Birthday challenges too?

 

Here is the November sketch:

I was instantly inspired by the sunburst background and knew I had the perfect The Crafter's Workshop stencil which I used with some mist ...

 

 

You'll notice I did mirror the sketch to suit my photo, plus I added a few more layers here and there for added interest.  I've loved playing with the Cocoa Vanilla You Rock collection - it's perfect for pets, too!

 

 

I've added some sparkle with the Heidi Swapp Glitter Stickers Navy – Epic ... I just love these!  Lots of layers with the chipboard and veneer, along with the paper ephemera ...
