For the Boys - Traveler's Notebook Spreads | Sue Plumb

Hi everyone! It's Sue Plumb here with my latest guest designer project to share with you. You might recall that last week I shared a pretty floral 12x12" layout (you can see it HERE); so for this week I decided to go in an entirely different direction with some boy themed traveler's notebook (TN) spreads.

My love for TNs has really grown over the past 12 months, as I approach this format quite differently to the "traditional" layouts I do. These little books are less about the process, and more about getting the memories down so I include a lot more journalling. For today's post I was working in one of my sons books and getting a couple of stories recorded for him.

I started this spread with a piece of leftover patterned paper from another project, so I thought I would take the opportunity to use it up on this. (This is a great way to use up scraps.) The paper I used was the I Love You paper from the Simple Stories 'Heart' collection, and I placed a piece on either side of my spread as my base.

The next step was to arrange my photos and my printed journalling. (I pre-print my journalling so I know exactly how much space it will need on the page.) Just like a larger layout, once I have those things in place, it's simply a case of filling in space with embellishments. For this spread I was working with the Ephemera Pack from the Pinkfresh Studio 'Boys Fort' collection. 

All the embellishments you can see on this spread are from the same Ephemera Pack; and I simply shuffled through the pack and found ones that work work to fill the spaces on my page. The final step to finish off my spread was to add some spots to the white space using a very fine grey felt pen.

For my second spread, I again began with my background. This time I used a scrap of the Treasured Memories paper (also from the Simple Stories 'Heart' collection); along with a scrap of the Happy Go Lucky paper from the Cocoa Vanilla Studio 'Boys Rule' collection. 

This time I also matted my main photo with the same Cocoa Vanilla Studio patterned paper to help it stand out more on the page. Again, I placed my photos and journalling before turning my attention to the embellishments.

I used the same Pinkfresh Studio 'Boys Fort' Ephemera Pack to embellish this page as I did for the previous spread. This time however, I needed an extra pop of blue so I fussy cut some blue stars from the Starshine paper from the Cocoa Vanilla Studio 'You Rock' collection (using my awesome limited edition gold Fiskars scissors).

I finished off my spread by stamping some little banners using StazOn black ink and a roller stamp from my stash; and with some doodling using fine tip felt pens.

I hope I have inspired you with some ideas for the next time you get creative - maybe try the traveler's notebook format if you haven't already, or even just create something masculine?

'Eat, sleep, be rad, ..repeat'

Hi everyone! It's Amy here, with another share for April. I have here a simple and flat page for those scrappers out there that love creating with flat pages - this will be the project for you.

I have captured this photo of a very tired Samuel with our little puppy "Luigi" on his back.

For this page, I have used various patterned papers from the store. With patterned papers, I like to mix my ranges up from time to time. I have used: Simple Stories 'Carpe Diem' range; and Cocoa Vanilla Studio 'Boys Rule'. 

Apart from applying the patterned papers on to the cardstock, I trimmed down the strips of words to produce the title - this is from the Cocoa Vanilla Studio 'Boys Rule' 'Boy Stuff' sheet. I hand-punched a star and circle with this double-sided paper. 

Behind the photo, if you look closely here, you will see that I have used Simple Stories and Cocoa Vanilla Studio. The black tag is from my stash and then I added the perfectly cheeky Charms Creations Emojii.

Finally, I stamped my page with bubble wrap using Stazon Ink in 'Jet Black' randomly over the page and then splattered the page with ColourBlast Colour Spray in 'Roadbase'.

#SRSLY Good Times

Hello everyone! I am back here sharing another page. This time, with a page consisting of multiple photos. The photos were from our recent trip to Western Australia (last month). 

I don't often scrap with multiple photos. So, for something different, I decided to scrap with a 'grid-like' format as a means to fit the photos in. For this 'grid', I used: Cocoa Vanilla Studio papers from the 'Boys Rule' range; Kaiser Craft cardstock die-cut pieces; Studio Calico wood veneer printed corners, Cocoa Vanilla flair buttons and enamel dots; Stazon Ink Jet in black, for stamping; and Heidi Swapp decorative tags. Be sure to check out these cool products available online. 

The handmade denim crosses are from Charms Creations and the words 'happy moment' were from my stash. You will find similar products in store, such as sticker sheets or even word stamps for a sub-heading.

Take a look at these close-ups. Personally, I found this grid format easy and a useful means of scrapping multiple photos in one page.

'Brrrrr'

Hello! Another month means a new challenge: “Think Green”!

Green is everywhere, of course – in nature, on a sleek old British racing car, or captured on something new and modern!

Recently, my youngest played his first football grand final. It happened to be a very cold and wintery Sunday morning, with hail! The poor little footballers had to run around in their shorts and footy tops!

First, on some white cardstock, with an old gift card, I smeared Dylusions paint in ‘cut grass’ Dina Wakley Media Heavy Body Acrylic Paint in ‘Lime’. 

For the circular splatters I used Tim Holtz Distress Stain in ‘mowed lawn’. With the hand-die-cut clouds I haphazardly applied Dylusions Ink Spray in ‘Fresh Lime’ with the stalk from the bottle. 

Once the background mediums had dried, I stamped the background with a Kaisercraft clear stamp with a Ranger Archival ink pad in ‘Emerald Green’.

Now to break up all this green, I used a Carabelle Studio Art Stamp – ‘Edges in My Journal’ – my favourite stamp at the moment 😊. To prevent the stamp ink from being smudged, I used a Tsukineko StazOn Archival Solvent Ink in black. 

For the white splatters, I used the Tim Holtz Distress Spray Stain in ‘Picket Fence’

Then it was time to adhere my photo down. For the photo border I used Cocoa Vanilla Studio ‘You Rock’ die-cut Ephemera. 

In this little cluster here, I have used some strips of Cocoa Vanilla Studio – ‘Boys Rule’ straight and narrow paper and a ‘Tis the Season’ Bitty Bow. The sequins and black thread are from my stash.

 

Finally, for the title, ‘Brrrrr’ – is from the Cocoa Vanilla Studio ‘You Rock’ Ephemera collection: the letter ‘B’ was used and the ‘r’s were die-cut from black cardstock in my stash.

It was fun making this simple mixed media page. I do hope come on board and have a go with this month’s mood-board challenge: think green!

July Moodboard Inspiration with Leonie

Hello and welcome to my first post for July. Leonie with you today. 

Mid Year school holidays are with us at present so if you find yourself with some free time why not join us in our July Monthly challenge. We have a divine moodboard for you this month and I have my inspiration piece based on the moodboard to share with you today.

Here's what I came up with based on the mood board. I created a background with Distress Oxide inks in greens and turquoise to match the mood board. I also added modelling paste through a Kinder Kreations splash stencil.

For some super eye popping oomph!! I coloured and painted some of the splashes in pink to match the moodboard as well.  I used Dylusions paints and Posca Pens to add the pink

The papers I matted my photos on are from the popular Boys Rule Collection from Cocoa Vanilla Studios.  I also added a Flair button, Ephemera and word Stickers from the Boys rule Collection.

My first page today uses a new product to the Cocoa Vanilla line a Large Die Cut and Backing kit. For those of us that don't have a cutting machine but like the look of cut file pages that are so popular at the moment. Here's your chance to create with one.



It sure has all the hard work done for you.  This page came together in 30 minutes.  The 12x12 paper is printed with the colour of the stars and it comes with the white die cut stars to lay over the top.  All I needed to do was stick it down and then add my photo, which is backed with layered patterned papers and embellished with some die cut labels, ephemera and a flair button.

My second page today also features the Boys Rule collection.  This time I created a stencilled background on white card stock using Dina Wakley Acylic Paint and various stencils.

 
On this page I used some of the Clear Stickers that are also a new addition to the Cocoa Vanilla Studio line.  How cool are these stickers?!

Crazy Even In Emergency - with Melinda

Good morning and welcome to the blog for the first post of the weekend!
Do you have any scrappy plans?
I do, and I hope to be super productive!!

Anyway, I'm here today sharing my newest page created with the very fun Photo Play Boys Rule Collection. I am documenting an interesting story today of my boys being maniacs, even while we were in Accident & Emergency with my husband last July. The journalling sums up how well they coped and all in all what an awesome job they did in such a gloomy situation!

I was inspired by a couple of stickers in the collection and built my page starting with those...

And, I also created a process video which you can see here. Make sure you subscribe to the ScrappingClearly YT channel too, so you don't miss mine or any of the other DT's shares over there!

I've torn 3 pieces of patterned paper from the Collection Pack (Seeing Stars, My Boy and Smash Bang) and layered them on the right hand side of my white background paper and then added a coat of white gesso both over the bottom of the papers (where my photos were going) and onto the white cardstock.

Time, of course, for some messy fun! I started with a text stamp in black Archival ink and then used a dotty texture stamp with dark blue Archival ink.

Then more colour! Back again to my Distress Oxides. I was going to use LOTS of colours but then ended up using only Squeezed Lemonade and Spiced Marmalade and the packaging technique over where the gesso and stamping was.

I also added some splatters using the Faded Jeans Distress Oxide watered down as I felt the white half of the page needed some of that darker blue to balance the right side.

Once that was all dry I added all my stickers and some messy thread in both a dark blue and a bright lime green and I love how that brings all the colours together through the page. The black word stickers are from the Boys Fort Phrase Stickers sheets.

Lastly, my title using the Black Glitter Heidi Swapp chippy alphas paired with the fun Mini Alphas from Pink Fresh Studio's Boys Fort collection.

I have to document the actual story of the reason we were at the ER in the first place but am kinda stuck - it's one of those stories that I certainly feel like I want in our album but am unsure how to add it in. Have you shared one (or more) of those types of stories in your albums?

Anyway, I shall leave you here with my last close up. I love the craziness and hectic feel of this page because, for so many reasons, that was exactly how those few hours felt! Oh, and just for the record, in case anyone is wondering, hubby's finger is almost completely healed and you wouldn't even know that he had a run with a table saw last July!!
