The Best Time - A Scrapbook Page by Katie

Hi there,

Katie back with my take on the January sketch challenge.

A sketch is a great way to kickstart your creative juices if you need one,

and who doesn't love an opportunity to win a prize?!

I have used Fancy Pants Joy Parade again for my page, and to suit my photos

I flipped the sketch over so the photos are on the other side.

I did this because of the direction the kid's were looking in the photos,

I didn't want them looking 'out of the page'. So here is my page:

I love a good sketch, especially one that gives you lots of room to make it your own.

My favourite technique is layering with embellishment clusters

and this sketch left plenty of room to do that,

and the Fancy Pants Joy Parade embellishments were so easy to use as well.

I used lots of the patterned paper as the foundations for my page,

including one as the main part of the background.

You can find all the papers for Joy Parade in the collection kit.

I also distressed the edges of my backing paper layers

to add some interest to the background.

I made good use of all the little bits and pieces in the tags and labels pack,

these kinds of things are always great for layering.

This particular cluster of embellishments also included

many of the Joy Parade Puffy Stickers,

including the word and camera.

I think puffy stickers are one of my favourite embellishments!

This title was part of the Joy Parade ephemera pack,

I simply backed it with some of the patterned paper

and then fussy cut around it, and hey presto, a title,

without having to think too hard!

Lots more bits and pieces from the ephemera and tags and labels packs here

and the puffy sticker shapes and dots and general puffy stickers.

I even layered a tag and heart together for extra effect.

The Joy Parade Flair are lots of fun too, and I used this one to bring in some more black,

and the saying fits the photos perfectly as well.

Combining the speech bubble and a puffy sticker helped make this embellishment cluster lots of fun, and maybe the smiley face helped too!

How Much of a Mood Board Do You Use?

Happy New Year!

May 2018 bring you lots of creative play, friendship, and happiness.

I was playing with the January mood board and trying to use up some older, unscrapped pics.

As you can see it was the green and gold that inspired this page, and

a sketch from last year.

My background was made with heavy weight card, super vibrant Dylusions sprays, gesso, and a heart stencil

that I made from another piece of cardstock. I used a Sharpie marker to outline the heart.

As always, I sanded the edges of my photos and matted them on black card.

I also used some black card for the umbrella I used to replace the original as it was too colourful.

I highlighted the folds in the umbrella with my yellow Distress Oxide inkpad as it has a nice chalky finish.

I used minimal embellishments since the background has such an impact

- a super cute arrow paperclip, a couple of chipboard banners.

A chippy arrow and wood veneer 'documented' both coloured black,

and a title using my fave alpha.

I journalled with a gel pen, and used some black paint to stamp around the edges

with heart-shaped bubble wrap, how cool is that!

Happy Birthday Scrapping Clearly!

 Scrappingclearly is celebrating 10 YEARS in the industry

and what a ride it has been.

The story behind the name Scrappingclearly came about after a class I decided to take with Nic Howard using an acrylic album. I totally loved the whole concept and decided to take it the next level, designing my own acrylic albums in different shapes and sizes and so "Scrappingclearly" was born. It didn't take long for the store to be filled with amazing products to use not only in the albums but crafting in general. 10 years on the store is packed to the rafters with paper crafting and mixed media products it's definitely my little oasis and I am grateful I can share the journey with my amazing Design Team and fabulous customers and students I have met over the last 10 years.

How To Read a Mood Board - Thanks Jo!

 Good Morning Arty Peeps!

Welcome to the Scrapping Clearly blog.

We recently had a question in our Facebook Group about how to use a mood board. One of our fans answered that question beautifully so I am going to share it with you today

Jo Lovespaper - a mood board is a collection of colours, patterns, objects, such as this month's which I've added here. The idea is to look at the board and whatever comes to mind you go with!
For example, you might see and use the colour red, or see the bike and think of tires and wheels or tire treads. Or the doll with the sparkling earring and use diamontes. Or the Poppies and relate it to ANZAC day. You can do a combination or just use one item. I hope that helps!

This month I used the colours because they were perfect for these pics of my boy at Jindabyne with his school. Black, red, grey/silver, and white.

Black gesso on white heavyweight card, with red paint highlights. My grey/silver is the Tim Holtz hashtag stamps (oh, how I love these!!) embossed.

My title is laid over a photo of the slopes, I inked around the edges of the Bella Rouge letters to make them stand out a bit more. I really like this alpha set, it's so versatile and goes with everything. There is also a whole range of scrapbooking products that match.

Can't wait to see how you interpret the mood board this month.

The Story of the Gumboots

Good Morning Arty Peeps!

Hope your weekend is full of fun with a little creativity thrown in, mine is shaping up just that way.

Today I'm sharing my sketch challenge layout, about hanging out with those who feed my soul with art and fun times.

Still using up my Colour Blast pastes, I made the background on heavy weight cardstock with a cool new Kinder Kreations mandala stencil, making sure to treat the paste with Dorland's Wax when dry, to stop the stickiness.

After the Dorland's I swiped some Ceramcoat black paint over my page top and bottom. When wiping it off the Colour Blast paste it was taking the paste with it, so I left it looking kinda grungy. I added a bit of zing to my background with some flicks of Lemon Zest Dylusions spray (the best yellow!).

For my layers I used this gorgeous stamp set with black ink on white card, adding some extra colour with Stazon ink and my Lemon Zest. The two word strips are from this pretty and versatile paper from Kaisercraft.

I journalled straight on the gesso with a white pen and added some white splats with Dylusions ink spray, I love how opaque this stuff is!

I used a title from this pack of foamThickers, and embellished with vellum hearts and buttons.

Bottoms up by Amy Prior - February Mood Board Challenge example

Hi everyone! Amy Prior back with you all again today, this time sharing my take on the February mood challenge which was designed by the amazing Peg Hewitt! Here is the current mood board and you can view the full details by clicking here. 

Here is my take on the mood board. I was inspired by the pretty flowers as well as the gorgeous colours and hearts!

I added lots of gold to this layout also because I just love this fabulous patterned paper from the My Minds Eye - My Story Collection - Patterned Paper. The gold is so hard to photograph successfully sorry but in real life this is so breathtaking!

Among the gorgeous layers of My Minds Eye - My Story Collection - Patterned Paper, I have also added various stickers from the My Minds Eye - My Story Collection - Paper Goods Stickers and My Minds Eye - My Story Collection - Story Stickers. I have inked the edges of all the papers, stickers and flowers to bring more black into the layers using Ranger Archival Ink Pad - Black and a Mini Ink Blending Tool.

I had so much fun playing with the Heidi Swapp - Wanderlust - Gold Alphas Foil sticker kit. It was so easy to use and I have added extra texture to the gold letters by squishing them down a little with my fingers. If you just want to keep the smooth gold finish, all you have to do is press the foil onto each letter. It is just so easy, I definitely recommend giving it a go! To help the letters pop off the background a little better i have doodled around the edges using a black archival pen.

Once all the layers were stuck down, I have splattered some Colour Blast - Shimmer Spray - Lipstick around the background however this step could be done first if you are afraid of splattering the photograph.

A few flowers from my stash finished this layout off perfectly.

Sweet Memories - Peg's sketch layout

Good Morning Arty Peeps.

Peg here today to share my take on the December sketch challenge.

I hope all your holiday planning is going smoothly and you're still managing a little creative time to join our

mood board challenge and our sketch challenge.

Now for some details...

For the background I used regular linen textured cardstock with a mix of Lemongrass and Mustard seed Glimmer Mists. I masked off my left side strip and applied Black Color Shine through this fabulous checker plate stencil.

 I used this patterned paper for thin strips to frame my checker plate, and also for the banner pieces in the sketch. Once those were stuck down I added some red splats by mixing Dylusions with plenty of water on my mat then pressing my page onto it.

These Thickers made up my title. My journalling is typed on vellum and attached using the awesome Tim Holtz tiny stapler (one of my favourite tools!!). I colour my staples black with an alcohol marker.

 I added black Kindyglitz to the wood veneer to make the word pop. Then finished off the embellishing with a couple of flairs and some enamel bits befor going around the edge of the page with Distress Stain.

Peg's July Sketch Page

Howdy Folks!

Sharing my sketch page with you today.

I started with Bazzill Marshmallow cardstock and cut a starburst shape from this patterned paper. After inking the edges of the starburst I stuck it in the middle of my page and then added colours to match my photo using Ranger Dylusions ink sprays, Heidi Swapp Colorshine, Tim Holtz Distress Ink, and a sponge. I matted my pic on black after sanding the edges, then mounted that on a hand cut piece of black card with the edge outlined using a white pen. For my title I blacked a Heidi Swapp wood veneer word and Heidi Swapp gold foil number stickers using my trusty Copic marker. Journalling was added with Papermate Wideline correction tape for strips, and a touch of Dymo. The little gum leaf came in a goody bag from a crop day, I coloured it the same as the background after a touch of gesso.
