What does it feel like ? An Art Journal entry.

Howdy folks, Lisa here with a quick mixed media update.

It's been a crazy week for me, which included an ambulance and a hospital visit.

So today I am taking it super easy to recharge, 

and while I attempt such things, a little creativity is always good for therapy.

Keeping things simple, I have created this easy page to share.

Starting with awesome Winslow water colour paper, I have incorporated acrylics,

stencils, scrap music papers,,crackle medium, white gouche, stamps, pens and a stabilo pencil.

‘Silly Selfies’

I have a bright and fun page to share this week! This is a selfie captured of myself and a good scrapping friend, with a big heart and an amazing spirit. As you can see, we do need some selfie practice, though!

When I saw the Jane Davenport stamps arrive in the shop – I thought ‘ooh la la!’

I have used the ‘JD MM Acrylic Stamp 4 Jane Girls’ set on the background with a permanent black ink like ‘Stazon Ink Jet’ in black. 

On some heavy white cardstock sheet primed with Dina Wakley Clear Gesso, I coloured the background. I sprayed it with water – as did not want the paints to look opaque. Then, using an old gift card, I smeared paint on. I used Dina Wakley Media Heavy Body Acrylic in both Ocean and Turquoise. I also used Dylusions Paints – Lemon Zest and Bubblegum Pink.

Before the paints had dried, I grabbed a baby wipe the Crafter’s Workshop – Mini Cell Theory Stencil, I rubbed it off randomly around the page.

Over the top of the paints I splattered Dylusions Shimmer Spray, by Dyan Reaveley, randomly around the page in ‘Bubblegum Pink’. I also used Tim Holtz Distress Spray Stains in ‘Picket Fence’ and ‘Broken China’.

Before I adhered my photo down, I stamped the background with a Carabelle Studio Art Stamp ‘Edges in my journal’ and cut strips of Pink Fresh Studio paper from the ‘Escape the Ordinary’ Collection in ‘Dare’.

For the cluster, I used paper flowers – these ones were from Kaisercraft and Maggie Holmes. The flair was from Cocoa Vanilla Studio Flair – Free Spirit Collection.

And finally, for the title, I used the superb American Craft‘Thickers’!

How I 'Read' the August Moodboard - Peg

Good Morning Arty Peeps!

The weekend is nearly here which means arty time for some of us, yay!

I spent time last weekend avoiding the football and playing with the Scrapping Clearly moodboard for August.

It's a fun one!

I chose to go with the colours (minus the blue), the grey and white stripes, and birds (they have wings).

My background, on heavy weight card, was made with BoBunny Glitter Paste in black

through a Crafter's Workshop cherry blossom stencil.

I used up some old Heidi Swapp acrylic 'Ghost Frames' which I ran through my sewing machine,

wonky stitching and all!

You can also see my date stamp in the corner here, I always use it with Archival ink so it doesn't run if it gets wet.

I added some splats to my background, with a variety of products, to spread a little subtle colour. First I used yellow alcohol ink because it was within reach but it was a little too orange. So I added some Dylusions Lemon Zest and Tattered Angels Key Lime Pie for a nice mix.

The colours and patterns in the Heidi Swapp 'September Skies' 6x6 paper pad were just what I wanted to highlight my pic. I used a full sheet for a photo mat and cut the two arrow pieces from another. Colouring two chevron chippies black with a marker, I stuck them down in order to reinforce the patterned paper arrow bits. 

I added an acrylic banner along the bottom edge of the patterned paper arrows, then stapled on some super cute vellum hearts (some I trimmed to a nicer shape) with staples coloured with Stazon. The little staples are Tim Holtz, the regular ones are placed using a long arm stapler to reach the middle of the page.

My black marker came in handy for colouring my title stickers too.
And there you have it, all done.

Sweet Cheeks - Skai Mitchell

Hey Scrappers, 

Im back today with a bright and fun layout featuring my daughter and some of the gorgeous papers from the Shimelle Starshine range. 

Start with a base of Marshmallow Heavy Weight Cardstock and spray some random burst of colour with Dylusions Spray in Bubblegum and Funky Fushia. 

Now add some Colour Blast Colour Paste in Dusty Charcoal in random spots through a The Crafters Workshop Stencil – Dina Wakley – 6 x 6 Mini Half Tone Circles

Dry it all really well with your heat tool. 

Next, grad a sheet of American Crafts – Shimelle Collection – Starshine – 12 x 12 Double Sided Paper – Mercury and start fussy cutting a heap of flowers. 

Cut the 'Shine Brightly' circle from the American Crafts – Shimelle Collection – Starshine – 12 x 12 Double Sided Paper – Odyssey. Machine stitch around the edge of it, and your photo to give it some texture. 

Now, start to stick it all down using a combination of Xpress It Double Sided Foam Tape  and Express It Clear Gel Liquid Glue. 

In my embellishments I've used a few bits from the Vicki Boudin - Watercolor Sticker Book and Mixology Gold Accents. Add to that the title from the Amy Tangerine Collection – Better Together – Thickers and you have one complete page.

And it's January!!

Happy New Year to all our arty peeps!!

I am so pleased to be leaving 2016 behind, it was a doozy.

So, playing with the bright and happy new mood board for January

(see it at the bottom of this post), I came up with this page.

This was my second attempt at creating on New Year's Eve,

I'm feeling a return of some mojo, yay!

 Some details...

Colour Blast paste (love that shimmer!) on a heavy card base with this TCW stencil. Then some drips and dribbles of Tim Holtz distress reinker colours, red and yellow. I used another piece of cardstock to clean my mat which I then used for the banner.

I journalled with my awesome WeRMK Typecast typewriter by putting the whole page through, yes, all 12"!! I wrapped paper towel over the paste so it wouldn't get all over the typewriter but as you can see by the uneven lines, it was a little challenging getting the paper to roll. No paste next time methinks.

Other stuff used... Foam title & stars, flair, phrase sticker, date stamp,  staples with Stazon ink, black acrylic paint, mini bubble wrap.

Smart phone blogging
