Friday Fun Day!

Hi All!! 

In these crazy times we are living in at the moment I hope this post finds you all safe and well!

Living in Melbourne has been a challenge lately as we are back in lock down once again. 

 Last time we were in this situation I created up a storm, then flatlined with my motivation and avoided my room like the plague! Well this time around I have started with the flatline.....arghhh!!!!

 I am totally unmotivated, and struggle every time I enter the black hole that is my "room"!

What to do? What to do?

I would love to hear how you break that cycle of apathy toward creativity.....I really need it right now!

So what do I have for you today? 

Well, as I hate to let people down, all I have been attempting, is my DT commitments, so I do have something for you today...a very simple Art Journal page created in my Dina Wakley Mixed Media Journal out of scrap paint and after cleaning off a stencil.

So here is the page called 

"Wild & Free"

Such an appropriate title really as I totally dream of being so!

I knocked back the busy background with white paint and a palette knife so that it did not hurt your eyes LOL! This made it a lot more appealing and manageable.

Now the colours I found in the background were Dina Wakley acrylic in Turquoise, Cheddar, Fuchsia and Eggplant. Also I added some Liquitex Acrylic Guache in Fluro Opera Pink, this colour is freaking awesome and a little goes a long way so don't be tempted to add too much to a page!

I then dragged out a stamp I have not used in a while from Dina Wakley "Scribbly Birds in Flight" and stamped them on to old book paper with Archival Black Ink. Now I do know that Kylie has not got this stamp ATM but I am sure if you ask she will be able to get it in for you, and if you do have this one in your stash rip it out and have a play!

After cutting them out I then grabbed the coordinating Dina Wakley Chipboard Shapes- Flying and sprayed the shape with Gloss sprays in Eggplant, Cheddar and splashed a bit of Turquoise.

If you do this in stages it works fab!

I attached it all on my page chose a title and the page was done!

Welcome to Friday!

Hi all, Michelle here I am back sharing my 

take on one of the Heidi Swapp Cyber crop Sketches. 

And here is my take: 

"Bloom"

This is in my Dylusions Black Journal and the page background was, what I call, a "smash" page where I just "smash" my leftover paint colour on to a page so as not to waste the paint and so I do not have to start with a blank page when next I create!

So all that was left to do was throw little bits and pieces at it till it felt right!

 The papers are from Heidi Swapp's Honey & Spice range, they all coordinate so well together creating this was easy peasy! I have a thing for sewing on my page ATM so that was where I started my layering.

I coloured the Heidi Swapp Die Cut papers...that came up a treat by the way, while wet, I pressed it down to create a stamped like image of the gorgeous pattern randomly on the background. I then dried it and attached some of it to the background around the spot I wanted the focal image to be.

Then it was just a matter of layering all my little bits, adding more of that Die cut paper in a different design and coloured with paint (the pack contains 6 different designs and they are all divine!)
And the page was pretty much done all it needed was a title and for that I used Mini Light box Alphabet stickers .

Hey Hey it's Friday!

Hi Everyone, are we all ready for the Cyber Crop tomorrow??? 

Very exciting and busy behind the scenes as Kylie and the team prepare a day of inspiring arty fun.

So I am here with a quick art journal share in my Dina Wakley 6x6 journal.

So here it is: 

"Let Art Get You Through The Dark"

The background was a painted striped number that I really disliked so left for ages! So I needed to revisit it and make it presentable.

The stripes were Dina Wakley acrylic paint in Sky, Cheddar, Blushing and Lemon.

I used lots of left over bits of book Paper and Scrap FX Ricepapers including my "Sketchings 1" and "Sewing" attached to the page using Gel Medium under and on top.

This made the page quite busy and chaotic.....not ideal!

So when the page becomes too much I needed to push it back....calm the chaos so to speak. So first I added a few scrapes of White Acrylic paint with a palette knife. That did not do enough so it was time for the big guns....Night Acrylic Paint and Dina Wakleys Stencil "Halves". I painted almost the entire page with night then placed the stencil over the top and rubbed the paint away through the stencil revealing the background through the halved circles.

After that was dry it seemed a little better and it was time to add a focal image.

I reached for Scrap FX Graffiti Peeps ricepaper sheet, added one of the figures to the page using the Gel Medium and the page was just about done.

All that was left to do was some scribble writing using a Posca paint pen in Black and white, and a quote/ title. I thought this quote was appropriate during these trying times so stamped the letters with an old alpha stamp set. So then I called the page done....it was not going to get any better anyway LOL!

Friday art Journal with Michelle.

Hi everyone I am back with my Dina Wakley's 6x6 Journal I am using this little one as a gratitude journal...

I got really messy with Gloss Sprays to create the background on this one: 

I used gloss sprays randomly sprayed and splashed around in Lime, Ocean and Marine to get a messy background, then used my mini round gel plate as a stamp with Dina Wakley acrylic paint  in Magenta.

I had some stamped tissue lying around with script on it from the Dina Wakley stamp set Script Elements so attached them to the page with Gel Medium killing 2 birds with one swipe.....clearing trash off my desk and making a background so much more interesting!

I then stamped the face from my fave Dina Stamp set: "Thoughtful Women" and attached it to the page with the same gel medium.

I then set about adding some depth to the stamp using more Marine Gloss spray and scribbles in  black and gold paint pens. It tuned out quite dark so I added a few splashes with the white Gloss Sprays and some highlights with a white gel pen.

I dug through my stash to find the old alpha stickers for the quote and my page was done!

Art Journal Friday with Michelle.

Hi Everyone and welcome back! 

Today I am sharing a page done in my Dina Wakley small 6x6 Art Journal.

There is nothing much to this page and it came together very quickly, which is a nice change for me!

So here is the page: 

"Gypsy Soul".

 The background was super simple,,,,just a few squirts of Dina Wakley Gloss Sprays  in  Lemon, Lime, Magenta & Turquoise.

I sprayed the Magenta through a Carbelle Studio Mask:  "Mini Indian Mandala Set" and flipped it in places to use up the excess spray on the mask and get some random pink in the page.

Once the background was dry I used Art by Marlene Boho Chic Stamp on Dina Wakley Collage Tissue, attaching it to the page with Gel Medium. I then added some random script using my latest favourite stamp set Tim Holtz Stamp Set: "Faded Type".

I then discovered that the background was way too busy, with the girls lost in the mix so I pushed it back with a few scrapes of White Gesso and an old fave, Dina Wakley stencil "Shape Mash".

I then fussy cut the girls from a sheet of Jane Davenport Washi Girls stuck them down and added a scribble or two because thats how I roll!

Then it was time for the title.... I used a Scrap FX transparency Sketchy Alpha and stuck it down with more Gel Medium.

Then my page was done, quick and easy as they come!

Art Journal Friday! by Michelle Logan

Hi All! I am back with a page from my  Art by Marlene Art Journal using a gorgeously girly Prima Stamp: "Eva".

Once again this page was covered with paint left overs so had a lot going on.

   

So to calm the chaos I used a sheet of old book paper. I folded and cut it like a doily....I think it worked to push the mess back into the background...but I think I need to refine my cutting skills!

I used the Dina Wakley Collage Tissue Church windows to direct your eye to the focal image and scraps of bits and pieces to support the main stamped image.

I coloured the image with a gold Signo pen and used Dina Wakley Scribble Sticks to colour the flowers and the apple.

A few stitches and a tab for a pop of colour and the page was done!

"Zine Fun" by Michelle Logan

Hey Hey It's Friday everybody and I am back with a little something different today!

A little Zine made from one sheet of paper.

 I rediscovered this cool Scrap book paper in my stash from Ella & Viv Graffiti Collection: Cardinal and Gold. Kylie still has some in stock too if it appeals to you! 

The paper started out looking like this:

It is very busy and bright but there was something about it that appealed. 

When faced with paper or a background like this it is easier to deal with in smaller sections....so folding this into small pages really worked a treat!

Before the folding began I trimmed the paper a little as I wanted some extra bits to add to the book later. I also added random black and white letters and numbers through a couple of Dylusions stencils, "Old School Numbers" & "Old School Alpha".

Once it was dry I then used a small circle Gel Plate as a stamp on an acrylic block adding some white organic circle patterns.

Then the folding began.

So lets get to how this one turned out:

 "Home.....a Dream"

Once the book was folded it was just a matter of adding some focal images and words.
Throughout the book I used the Dylusions Stamp sets: "Star Struck"  & "Right up Your Street" and a few old bits and pieces in my stash like the alphas and numbers....leftovers from my scrapbook years!

I used Dylusions washi tape  to add a little interest and stitching to add texture along with the stamped images.

I added a little colour to the stamped images using Dina Wakley Scribble Sticks throughout the booklet.

All the hoarded Alpha and Number stickers came in handy as the words on the pages. 

Old punches also made an appearance, the tiny hearts and the tabs (cut from the left over trimmed paper).

Art Journal Friday!

Hi all it's Michelle back at you with another Friday Art Journal spread in my Art by Marlene Journal.

So with out further ado here it is, I am calling this one

"She's the Queen...."

So how did this one come about? 

Well the background was a result of a play session where I "swiped" a lot of backgrounds at once.

 This is what I do when I have no idea what I want to create. I just mess with paint until something comes to me, as a result I have ready made backgrounds ready and waiting for me to finish off....in this way I rarely have a blank page to stare back at me when I have an idea!

So the page had a swipe of paint by Dina Wakley in the colours: Eggplant, Cheddar and Fuchsia. Then I added some stencilled squares using the Cheddar paint and one of the stencils out of the Dyalog Stencil set.

I then used white and the Gilt paint with the Modern Lace stencil, using the reduction method of wiping away with a baby wipe through the stencil. This pushed all the layers into the background so it calmed the chaos a little.

I then used the same technique with the Black paint though the  Infinite Lace stencil to form a halo around my main focal image. 

I stamped  Prima's Creating in Faith Stamp: Esther three times, 2 on Dina Wakleys' Plain collage paper and the main figure on plain white cardstock.

I used Matte Gel Medium to attach the collage paper images to the page making sure I added a fine layer of the medium over the top so I could add a bit of colour later. I then wanted to highlight the main focal image so I added the old doily from my stash around her head so she stood out from the other images.

 

Then I set about colouring the girls with Art by Marlene Water colour Paint set: "Whimsy & Bright" and an Artline Gold Metallic Pen. Then it was just a matter of adding a few scribbles on their faces to make them a little different from each other (and because I could not resist doing it) with a  Black fineline marker. Added some splatters around the page then the title from a transparency by Scrap FX....(I attached the transparency with the gilt paint to make the print stand out from the background.....acrylic paint can make a good glue! Then to make the transparency less shiny I added a fine layer of Matte Gel Medium.

And my page was done!

Hi All! Are you ready for another Friday Art Journal page?
Today I played with one of my Funky Folk: Weird designs...I know shameless plug...but hey they are fun and super easy to incorporate as a focal point on a page.
So without further ado here it is:

"Perfectly Imperfect"

This was done in my Dina Wakley Mixed Media Journal on a page that was full of left over paint (which is usually how the fun starts) which makes it difficult for me to tell you how I did it as I don't know myself! But I do know there is a Dina Wakley stencil clean up or 2 in there!!!

I stamped with a background stamp by Scrap FX in various places using the ultramarine Stazon ink and then went about using the black circle shapes ( these are Black acrylic paint I painted on to DW collage Tissue from my paper stash) to direct the eye towards the funky Folk image.

I then added a few extra motifs from old stamps using Vibrant Fuchsia Archival Ink Pad on to my "Weirdo" as well as some extra washi I had lying around.

I then added a crown from the Dylusions Star Struck stamp Set and added a few pops of pink with a paint pen.

lastly it was time to add some splatters with the DW Gloss Sprays in Magenta and Lime, add the Title which is from the Scrap FX Collage sheet the Weirdo came from, and the page was done!

"We're all Crazy..." Friday Art Journal by Michelle

Hi All....yep It's Friday.....time for some Art Journal fun.

So here is my latest, using some Scrap FX "Graffiti Peeps - Snarky" (yes, designed by yours truly!)

So I have called this page.....

"We're All Crazy..."

I used an old clean up page to start with, out of my Art By Marlene Journal so it really was a bit of a red hot mess.....! The paint colours were DW Sky and Lemon.

I worked with a Dina Wakley Stencil, "Soul Shines" and some DW Fuchsia Gloss Spray trying to give the page some cohesion before using the Graffiti Peep as a focal point.

I added a few scribbles and spotty circles to draw the eye to the focal image.

I added some more scribbles because well thats how I roll, including some gold on the Peep, using a gold paint pen.

I added some extra embellishment to the peep using some scraps I had left over from my Tab Journal a few projects ago.

I then grabbed an appropriate saying from Tim Holtz and a few Splashes of 

DW Night Gloss Spray  and the page was done.
