Rainbow box with Amy Prior

Hi there Scrapping Clearly fans! Amy Prior back with you all today sharing this quick tutorial for how I decorated a plain box from Kmart for my daughter's bedroom. She is very excited to store her trinkets inside...

Step 1: Cover the entire box with Liquitex Gesso to prime the surface. The box originally was woodgrain with a grey lid so I wanted to ensure I had the entire surface primed and ready. 

Step 2: Scrape some Colour Blast - Colour Paste - Sunshine and Colour Blast - Colour Paste - Rose Petal randomly over the top of the lid and sides of the box. Allow to dry slightly.

Step 3: Scrape some Colour Blast - Colour Paste - Envy, Colour Blast - Colour Paste - Deep Water, and Colour Blast - Colour Paste - Tangareen Dream in random spots also then allow to dry slightly.

Step 4: Scrape some Colour Blast - Colour Paste - Just Blue and Colour Blast - Colour Paste - Lipstick to finish off the colour then allow to dry completely. Use a heat tool if needed or just sit aside to dry naturally overnight. Colour pastes dry very quickly but obviously the thicker the application, the longer it will require. Overnight is always a safe bet.

Step 5: Now that the colour paste is all dry completely, grab a Ranger Black Archival Ink Pad and literally rub the ink pad directly over the entire painted surface. This will blacken the fun texture that was created with each scrape of paint. Don't be afraid to press harder, if the first application of black does not contrast enough for your liking. 

Step 6: When the Archival ink is completely dry, rub some Dorlands Wax Medium over the entire painted surface. The Colour Pastes dry slightly tacky so this will help avoid anything sticking plus it will help with cleaning in the future as water, etc. will be instantly repelled by the wax.

This box is no longer dull but full of life and the perfect addition to my daughter's arty rainbow inspired bedroom.

First Haircut Mixed Media Scrapbook Page by Amy Prior

Hi there Scrapping Clearly fans! Amy Prior back with you all again today, this time sharing a quick tutorial on how I created the background for this fun page...

Step 1: Trim your photos to size and mark off a piece of American Crafts 12x12 Double Thick White Cardstock where you would like them to be positioned using a lead pencil.

Step 2: Doodle some random circles with little stitched patterns around the page using a permanent archival quality black pen. Make sure you place these circles where they will be visible once you have adhered your photograph with any layers added around. 

Step 3: Use a paint brush to add some Colour Blast - Shimmer Spray- Sunshine by roughly colouring in the circles. I do messy circles so I did not want to colour within the lines either! Add some splatters around the page as you go. Dry with a heat tool.

Step 4: After the yellow is dry, repeat Step 3 using Colour Blast - Shimmer Spray - Fire Engine and dry with a heat tool.

Step 5: After the red is dry, repeat Step 3 using Colour Blast - Shimmer Spray - Deep Water and dry with a heat tool.

 Step 6: When all of the Shimmer spray is completely dry, layer some Simple Stories - Life in Color Collection - Assorted 12x12 patterned papers around the photograph and adhere onto the page. I have also added a couple of different sized doilies from my stash underneath these layers.

Step 7: Add a title to your page using stickers from the Simple Stories - Life in Color Collection - Expressions Cardstock Stickers Sheet. I have added some white doodling around the edge of some letters to help them stand out on top of a darker background. 

Step 8: Finish off the layout by embellishing using various products from Simple Stories - Life in Color Collection - Bradz, Simple Stories - Life in Color Collection - Clear Stickers, and Simple Stories - Life in Color Collection - Fundamentals Cardstock Stickers.

Mermaid Hair - March Mood Board

Morning Scrapping Clearly Peeps...

Have you had a chance to check out our Mood board this month? As soon as I saw it, I knew this was the photo I was going to scrap. My daughter attend a private school where weird and wackey hair colours are a huge No-No... So for the summer holidays we dyed her maid pastel blue and she declared it 'mermaid hair'. 

I started my base off with a piece of black cardstock from my stash. It was a piece of Core'dinations that had a blue base, so when I have sanded the edges, the blue came through. 

Next grab some Marshmallow Heavy weight cardstock and some Colour Blast shimmer powder in Lush, Navy Sunshine and Peacock and get messy and play!! 

I usually sprinkle a little bit onto the cardstock them apply random spritz of water and let them meld and mix. The effects are stunning and the applications are endless. 

Ive used pieces of patterned cardstock from the

 Crate Paper - Cute Girl range to matt my photo, and the super cute mermaid cut out from the chipboard stickers with glitter accents.

To finish it off, ive added some splatters of acrylic paint in London Blue and Calypso Teal from Dylusions.

Live Colourfully with Amy Prior

Hi everyone! Amy Prior back with you all again today with a quick tutorial on how i created this fun and colourful layout titled "Live Colourfully". Ok so the word Colourfully is spelt wrong because it is an American branded product used but I bet you didn't really notice at first glance anyway so we will just run with that LOL.

Creating the background for this layout was fairly simple. All you need to do is follow these quick and easy steps...

Step 1: Spread some Dina Wakley White Gesso over the top of  The Crafter's Workshop 12x12 Sweet Posey Stencil using a palette knife or a credit card. As you can see, I have first placed the stencil on one side of my 12x12 Bazzil Cardshoppe Marshmallow heavy weight card-stock followed by the other part of the stencil for the other side. Be sure to have a much smaller side and a larger side to get this fun effect. The larger side will be the side you place your photo also so if you want to recreate this layout but in reverse, be sure to place the larger part of the stencilled image on the right side instead. Paint a couple of different sized circle chipboard frames with the Gesso also and put them aside to allow to dry.

 Step 2: Dry the Gesso completely using a heat tool if required, or simply let the Gesso dry completely overnight etc. The drying time will depend on how thick you have scraped the gesso through the stencil. When scraping anything through any stencil, be sure to scrape off any excess before removing the stencil to avoid long drying times.

Step 3: When the gesso is completely dry, spray some Colour Blast Shimmer Spray over the pattern randomly in colours Sunshine, Rose Petal and Singin' the Blues. Do not add any water and ensure you spray really close to the card-stock to avoid too much over-spray occurring. Pink, blue and yellow mixed together will create a brown colour which you will want to avoid for this layout as there is no brown in the papers etc. 

Step 4: If the chipboard circles are not yet dry, blast them with a heat tool and ensure they are dry completely. When completely dry, spray the entire surface with some Colour Blast Snow White Shimmer Spray and set aside to dry.

Step 5: Spray some white paper flowers and some Heidi Swapp - September Skies - Color Magic Die Cuts with some Colour Blast - Shimmer Spray - Sunshine, Colour Blast - Shimmer Spray - Singin' the Blues, Colour Blast - Shimmer Spray - Rose Petal, Colour Blast - Shimmer Spray - Apple of my Eye. You can then leave these to dry naturally or give them a quick zap with the heat tool. If you plan on using your heat tool, use some double sided tape to stick your die cut pieces to a craft mat before you spray them. This will ensure that they stay still when you blow the heat tool over the top. 

  Step 6: Begin layering small square and rectangle pieces of Dear Lizzy - Happy Place - Patterned Papers around the photograph and include a doily as well. If your background is completely dry, this bundle of happiness can then be adhered to the background but ensure you use some good quality adhesive as the bumpy gessoed background will not be good for standard double-sided tape. I use a hot glue gun but any good quality glue would suffice. If you are using the clip from the Heidi Swapp - September Skies - Attachment Kit to adhere the Dear Lizzy - Happy Place - Decorative Brads to the photograph, then I recommend clipping this on before you add your paper layers as I forgot and had to peel back the double sided tape a little to tuck him underneath.

Step 7: Stick down the completely dry circle chipboard frames over the top of the photograph and to the side of the layout. If the circle overlaps the edge like mine did, simply trim off any excess with some scissors. Try not to cut off the excess until your glue has dried otherwise you may move the chipboard a little. 

Step 8: The final step is to finish off embellishing the layout. Adhere some flowers on both of the circle frames and then stick the various die cut pieces that you have chosen randomly around the page wherever you fancy. I have also drawn around the edges of the die cut phrase a couple of times with a Ranger White Opaque Pen to ensure that the title stood out a little bit more on top of the layers.

Crazy Fun with Amy Prior

Hi there Scrapping Clearly fans!! Amy Prior here with you today for my first ever blog post as an official Design Team member. I am so excited to be here sharing my passion with you all and cannot wait to be inspired by you all as well. 

Today I have a layout to share with you all that I have created using the fabulous September Sketch Challenge as my inspiration. You can checkout the sketch challenge details here. 

To create this layout, I have started by cutting out various sized circles out of some 12x12 White Marshmallow Heavy Weight Cardstock. I have cut these out using my Cricut Explore machine however you could also use. Once the circles were cut out, I have filled them in by using various patterned papers from the Pink Paislee C'est La Vie Collection including both 6x6 and 12x12 size papers. 

Once all my circles were filled with patterned paper, I then had fun layering some of the Pink Paislee C'est La Vie Collection papers underneath my photograph along with some Pink Paislee C'est La Vie Ephemera bits, a doily, and a Heidi Swapp 4x4 Metallic Frame set on top. I found this circular chipboard in my stash that added the perfect bit of contrast after being covered with Black Ranger Archival Ink.

The final addition for this layout was adding some embellishments and a touch of mixed media. Firstly I have added some Cocoa Vanilla Hello Lovely Arrows. I just love these gorgeous little charms and definitely need some more for my stash! The gold circle stickers that I have added are from the My Minds Eye On Trend 2 Alphabet and Words Sticker Pack and I have also added lots of accents etc. using the Pink Paislee C'est La Vie Puffy Stickers, Pink Paislee C'est La Vie Ephemera, and the Pink Paislee C'est La Vie Washi Sheets. Finally a little mixed media addition with some dribbles of Colour Blast Shimmer Spray in Sunshine, Rose Petal, and Deep Water Colours.

As an after thought, I also added some black rhinestones from my stash to bring more black contrast to the background. This could have also been achieved by adding some black stamping etc. also.
