Epic Adventure Mini Album | Sue Plumb

Hi everyone! It's Sue Plumb back again to share my final guest designer project with you. Today I am sharing a special mini album I created to document an epic adventure I had with my sister - a surprise weekend away to celebrate her birthday that was organised by her partner (and a few sneaky scrappy gals you may recognise!)

There is so much to love packed into this album - not just the memories, but some beautiful products too. I have found myself using a lot more patterned papers lately, and falling in love with paper all over again.

So, let's get started on this album. I began with a pile of photos and a small 6 ring binder-style planner I had purchased at Kmart. I opened it up and removed everything from the inside, leaving me with the cover only. 

I started by making myself a "kit" of coordinating items to work from that included a variety of patterned papers; stickers; and die cut ephemera.

I chose a number of patterned papers from the Simple Stories 'Heart' and Heidi Swapp 'Emerson Lane' collections; with some odd sheets from Pink Paislee and Websters Pages added in. My main criteria when choosing the papers for my kit was colour choice - with both the A and B sides of each one needing to fit my chosen palette.

I started by cutting the sheets of paper into smaller "pages" - trimming each one into a variety of different sizes and shapes. I then used a few different decorative border punches to punch along some of the edges. 

Now it was time to sort the pages into some sort of order. I shuffled and stacked them, making sure that the sizes were mixed up and that colours and patterns on facing pages were complimentary to one another. I then punched each page using a 6-hole punch (check out the gorgeous DCWV 6-hole gold punch in the store HERE); adding some hole reinforcer stickers as I placed them into the binder.

With all of my pages in place, it was time to start adding my photos. (I do admit that the order of the pages did get shuffled a little as I began to work my way through the book.)

I treated each page just like a tiny scrapbook layout - I had a background, photo/s and now they just needed embellishments. I didn't want to use anything bulky because I wanted to make sure the pages would lay flat, so I chose a mix of stickers and die cuts to use.

To coordinate with the papers I had chosen, I used the Simple Stories 'Heart' Cardstock Stickers; and the Heidi Swapp 'Emerson Lane' Stickers and matching Ephemera. 

Throughout the album I added extra interest to some of the pages by adding "tip-ins" (extra interactive flaps) using tags / ephemera / pieces of paper, which I fastened with washi tape. (There is even a set of coordinating 'Emerson Lane' Washi Tapes!)

I left some of the pages in the album photo-free and kept them simply decorative. You can see how having a good variety of different page sizes, colours and patterns adds plenty of visual interest.

I did choose a couple of embellishments that were slightly dimensional to use in my album - the super cute Pebbles 'Spring Fling' Puffy Stickers - Flowers; and the 1 Canoe 2 'Globe Gallery' 3D Butterflies.

I made an effort to include handwritten journalling on as many of the pages as I could - using a variety of labels, journal tags and even paper offcuts to write on.

Another way to switch things up in the album is to add the photos sidewards - just as I did with the landscape shot, which allowed it to be printed larger.

Never be afraid to punch directly through a photo to turn it into a page itself; and when dealing with small pages, sometimes it is better to embellish over part of the photo.

When working on a small scale like this, especially with papers featuring bold patterns, it is better to keep to the "less is more" rule with embellishments.

Look at the papers you have and see what can be fussy cut from them to use as embellishments, such as flowers, labels, shapes and quotes.

Another way to add extra interactive elements to your album is to include small envelopes, such as the Heidi Swapp Memory Planner Envelopes I used,  which can be used to hold memorabilia, journalling or even extra photos (just like I did in my special "sealed section").

This is by no means all the pages from my album - there are just too many pages to share here (and some still to be completed). Once I have them all finished I will try and film an album flip through to share with you in the Scrapping Clearly Facebook group.

More Mood Board Inspo

Hi everyone.   

I've been missing in action for a few weeks trying to get my house ready for sale but I'm back.

I too was inspired by this month's mood board.   I love using mood boards because it challenges me to think outside the box and experiment, particularly with colours.   

 

I started by mixing some acrylic paint with some 13@rts Magic powder to give it some body and texture - basically creating my own texture paste which I spread through a couple of stencils.   Magic!   I added water to the left over paint and flicked some splatters on using a fan brush and colouring my gauze.

After matting my photo including some We R patterned paper, it was time to add my clusters with some punched shapes from my stash, buttons and some Tim Holtz Idea-ology Transparent Wings.

Mood Board Inspiration

Today I took inspiration from this months awesome mood board and also used up an old background that was in the pile.

I would also like to give credit where it is due for this background I scraplifted from a scrappy sista Meegan Smith. We had both done an informative and fun class with Fiona Paltridge using the gel plates.(something I thought would never interest me LOL)

Meegan cut up and reorganised the prints into this wonderful style background.

I used the Prima stamp for the flower and hand drawn hearts from contrasting prints. The pen work was done with a fude ball pen.

I used marshmallow cardstock and gel medium to glue the prints onto it.

I would love to see how this mood board inspires you.

Art Journal page using Collage papers as a focal point with Lisa Oxley

 Howdy Bloggers, Lisa here with a Scrapping Clearly lazy Sunday update.

Today I am sharing with you just simple page using a little Tim Holtz collage paper.

 Starting in my medium sized Art By Marlene journal by adding a little gelli print page scraps, the superior 300 gsm water colour paper takes the Gesso, Matt Medium and Dina Wakley Media paint beautifully.

 My focal point for this page is a simple strip of Tim Holtz Collage Paper featuring two bird.

Yes birds again, they seem to be a constant in my pages and my life atm.

Finishing with background stamping using a font and leaves stamp and a title using

Dina Wakley Media collage words.

Lost and Found

I am sure each of you have days like this... you just lose your mojo... and then you get a hit of inspiration... I had that exact hit like a lightning bolt thanks to Leanne Jago. Leanne gathered a group of friends to create ATC (artist trading cards). We each created a group of cards and sent them to each other... OMG ... amazing... it re-ignited my passion for these little arty creations. 

These are the two that I created for Leanne's swap -- so much in love... *note to remember is to make sure you create a few extra for yourself 😉

So on that note and with such rich and lush colours with this months moodboard I decided to create a couple more ATC's. To start the process I decided to make my own paper. I have used Dina Wakley Fuschia acrylic paint on one and Peeled paint Distress stain on the other.

these are a few of the things I used to put these ATC's together - 

•  Fuschia ATC - Jane Davenport stamps,  watercolor paints & Dina Wakley Media collage Paper and stitching in black cotton and Dina Wakley media Fuschia acrylic paint.
• Peeled paint ATC - Dina Wakley Media collage paper, stitching, Jane Davenport Stamp

I used the watercolors to colour the Jane Davenport flowers that I fussy cut. I then layered them on the card after I sewed a black border. 

  I added a few layers of pre-prepared tissue and some of the Dina Wakley collage paper and then sewed a round circle on the card. I added Jane Davenport stamps and sewed fabric in the circle.

The two ATC's were then finished off using some Dina Wakley collage paper quotes. I hope you have found a little inspiration with these lush colours from the moodboard.

"She Listened..."

Hey Hey it's Friday!! 

Hello my Lovelies, I am back with a spread in my junk journal....so hard to get a good pic but well lets just go with it! Here it is:

"She Listened...."

There are so many layers to this as once again I started with a "smashed" paint page (a page I smash all my left over paint on).

So I needed to create some cohesion to the page so I added old book paper and sheet music paper (with the Matt Gel Medium) as well as some random stamping with anything I had on my desk. 

Be sure to use Archival or Stazon ink to stamp with so that it will not react with future layers.

Then I played with  Dina Wakley Paint Colours in Sky, Magenta, Peacock and carnation to add to the paint I had there previously, this created a random background.

The main focal point is a Dina Wakley stamp: "Refuse to be Ordinary". I stamped on to tissue then attached to the page using Matt Gel Medium, I always add a layer f the medium over the top of the image as well so that I can safely add more mediums over the top of the image without fear of disaster.

To ground the main focal image to the page I used a TCW 6x6 Stencil "Love Frame" with the colour Night (Dina Wakley Paint) and the "wipe away" method surrounding the face and joining the two pages.

I then played with the face a bit adding some colour with the Carnation paint and then some details with white and black Posca paint pens. 

I then added a sentiment which is a Scrap FX Transparency and the page was done!

Friendship - With Karyn Schultz!

Hi Scrapping Clearly Lovelies!!

It's Karyn here, and today I have a scrapbook page to share with you made using some 13 Arts products as well as chipboard and metal embellishments all available in the Scrapping Clearly Store.

For my base I've used a sheet of white cardstock. I added some background colour using Prima Watercolor Confections then I added some stencilling using a 13 Arts 6x6 "round with butterfly" stencil.

 

Next I added a 13 Arts 12x12 Vintage Collage transparent printed foil over the background. I love the look that this transparency gives to the page without covering up the background. I matted my photo on more of the 13 Arts Art Journey papers.  

In the top right I added some paper flags cut from the 13 Arts Art Journey papers, a Tim Holtz Muse Token, some Tim Holtz Idea-ology Alpha partsand a paper flower.

Around the photo I added more Tim Holtz Idea-ology Alpha parts , a 2 Crafty chipboard aztec arrow and more paper flowers.
