Chill - with Katie Howard

Good Morning, good morning!
Katie here today with my first share for February and I am really excited to share a page
using the new Crate Paper collection called Good Vibes. This is such a fun collection and really versatile too.
I have included a few step-by-step photos to show you how my page came together.

Ok, let's start with the finished page:

I used some mixed media on the background in the form of distress oxide inks,
I think these are my favourites to work with at the moment as you can use them in so many ways.

I started with some clear gesso on my background cardstock, and then swiped my ink pad onto some left over packaging spritzed with water, using the popular packaging technique to add some colour to the background.

I found that the colour ink pads in the photo coordinated perfectly with
the Good Vibes collection, but I didn't end up using the Worn Lipstick,
only the Picked Raspberry and Faded Jeans.

I let this dry after adding some splatters with a paint brush, then added some faded jeans to the mix.
By letting the colours dry in between they won't blend and mix together
to form new colours or go muddy.

While building up the background I brought my photo over every now and then to see if I needed
to do more to my background or if it was enough, we don't want it all covered up after all!
When finished I let it all dry and started putting together my photo and layers.

I built the photo component up while the background was drying and then simply stuck it down.
I used the papers from Good Vibes called All Good and Flourish, I love that
being double sided I get four patterns from two papers, which makes layering so easy!
Once the base of the photo was done, all I did was finish off with some
embellishments and the page was complete!
I used the Good Vibes Ephemera pack to get some more layering bits, this pack is awesome and even includes some cork stars. The cork star that I added I outlined with a gold paint pen to add some more interest. For my title I used the word "Chill" from the puffy sticker thicker pack High Five, there are so many great bits in this pack including the stars that I added also, and I am kind of fond of puffy stickers too!

Now here are a couple of close ups to show the layering and background in more detail.

Don't be afraid to layer on top of embellishments, this is a great way to build up clusters.

Overlapping your photo with your title is a great way to block out unwanted parts of your photo,
and don't forget to tuck embellishments and paper scraps into your layers of patterned paper
to build interest and depth.

Thanks for joining me today, and make sure you go and get yourself some of this fabulous collection as I am sure it won't last long!

Katie x

  1. What a great page, the patterned paper draws the eye straight down the table in your photo, so clever!
