Book of Me : Junk Journal

Hello and welcome to my first blog post on the Scrapping Clearly Blog and I’m really excited to be sharing my version of  “The Book of Me”  in a junk journal.

First I created a distress ink background using the colour palette from the January “ Mood board” : Summer Sorbet. I stamped my images directly onto the distress background and added clear embossing powder and heat set. Next I used my water colour paints to add extra depth of colour to the stamped “ eye” image and for some background splatters. The next step was to use some vintage music sheets and scrapbook cardstock to create the body of my book. I used the printed scrapbook paper to create pockets for tags and ephemera, that I intended adding to my journal.

Next step was to use my sewing machine to sew in the pockets and to add ephemera to tags etc. and stitch the book together.

Then back to my craft desk to start adding my colour palette to tags, pockets and mini cards. I used the same colours throughout the journal, adding extra interest with a stencil and string/ribbons and adding vintage inspired scrapbooking stickers and ephemera.

Adding extra embellishments with paper bags, envelopes, paper clips and whatever I had at hand.

Repeating the colour palette helps to connect the pages and adds a consistent feel throughout the journal.

I added distress ink to the back of pre printed cards too as these will be perfect for adding handwritten journal sentiments and thoughts along with the weekly prompts over the coming weeks of creating “ My book of Me”.

Adding distress ink around the edges of the tags and cards also creates a warmth to the journal. I created a few pockets with some index cards created in a former project.

To create more of that vintage feel I used a mini distress water spritzer to allow the ink to re-activate and create that old world vintage vibe.
