Salutations Scrappy peeps and welcome to the awesome art that is Dina Wakely.
She recently graced our shores for a quick Aussie Tour and I was extremely fortunate to be able to attend one of her classes.
2 years ago I was (officially) introduced to world that is Mixed Media through an art class with the super rad (and fellow DT member) Lisa Oxley. In her class that just exploded with colour she talk about this Dina chick and I figured if she loves her, then I better check her out to. Its safe to say I fell in love with her style straight away and she soon became one of my all time arty muses.
Dina's style is loose, edgy, textural and bold! Watch some of her Youtube tutorials and you will see that there is no mistakes and her favourite catch phrase is 'opps, oh well, whatever'...
Here transferred some of her techniques into a 12x12 layout. I created the background using Blackberry Violet, Turquoise, and Ocean Heavy body paints with Crushed Grape and Vibrant Turquoise Dylusion sprays through some stencils onto Marshmallow Cardstock.
Add a splatter of black house paint and allow to dry.
Gather up some Ranger tags and using the same paint and spray colours add some areas of interest. Machine stitch around them and glue them to your background.
Stamp your images onto another sheet of Marshmallow. Here i've used the Scribbly Wings and Lonely Girl stamps. A little flick of Dylusions and some very loose fussy cutting, then glue them down using Gel Medium.
Ive used some Heidi Swapp mist-able lettering for the title, and some old book papers for the grounding under the girl.
Here are the Journal pages we completed in the class. Using our Dylusion Journals we cut little holes to create a peek-through page...
Head on over to the store to find a huge range of Dina;s products and get playing in your journals today!!
I cant wait to see what you create
Cheers - Skai
