Using Childrens' book images on your Art Journal pages.. By Lisa Oxley

Howdy folks, Lisa here with a Sunday mixed media upload.

I have been flicking through old kids books, fairy tales type, and came across this delightful picture of snow white-pre Disney. I particularly love her glorious hair, so I just had to put her in my journal

For this piece I have a square Dylusions journal
and I used white Liquitex gesso to covered the surface.

Cutting around the main image, to remove what I don't want on the page, I added the image to the page using Liquitex matt medium.
Detail items used include
Butterfly sticker
White out correction pen.

Here a quick video to show you how simple and easy this was to put together.

Thanks for dropping by the blog, lets get festive for the month ahead, Ill be back in no time with another mixed media Scrapping Clearly update .

'These little moments I love...' by Amy

Hi All!

I have here a simple page using goodies from the gorgeous Pink Fresh Studio 'Escape the Ordinary' range.

This range is perfect to compliment my photo of young Samuel up in Victoria's High Country.

Here is a list of the items used from the store in this layout:

Finally, using the Pink Fresh Studio - Escape the Ordinary, I have die-cut some shapes to embellish this simple page.

Here are some close-ups!

Thank you for stopping by; and have a great weekend!

Ciao, Amy

Detours - A Scrapbook Layout with Lisa J

Good morning Scrapping Clearly friends,

Today I am sharing a layout using my latest scrapping obsession: backgrounds created by scraping paint with a credit card. I don't know what it is but these colour-saturated backgrounds just make me so happy. What is your latest scrappy obsession? Let me know in the comments below.

I have used Dylusions paint After Midnight to create this background. I used the edge of my credit card to create some lines as well.

I wanted to create a snapshot page of one of our latest camping adventures and the Heidi Swapp Mini Instaframes were perfect to highlight four of my favourite pics.

I used papers, chipboard stickers, and fabric die-cuts from the Pink Fresh Escape the Ordinary Collection.

I used a white Posca paint pen to make some crosses in the background to mimic the ones on the chipboard mountains (love the chipboard in this collection), and add a little highlight to the background.

Hope you have a creative week.

Happy scrapping,

Lisa J

Art Journalling - With Karyn Schultz!

Hi Scrapping Clearly Lovelies,

It's Karyn here,
and today I have some Art Journal pages to share with you
made using lots of fun products available in the Scrapping Clearly Store.

I love art journalling. I love that there are no rules and that I can experiment with techniques before applying them on a scrapbook page. I love looking at all the wonderful masterpieces that other art journallers create. I struggle at times though with finishing off my pages. I love to work on the background but then I struggle with the "final layer". In scrapbooking you have a photo - now I need some other element. I think that part of my problem is that I love the background and dont want to cover it up!!

I recently purchased the 6 newest Dylusions paints (Peony blush, Mushy Peas, Laidback Lilac, Periwinkle blue, Vanilla custard, Rose quartz). Initially I wasn't sure of the colours. They seem quite pastelly compared to the other colours in the range - but I now LOVE LOVE LOVE them!!

I started by using a spatula to apply them to my pages. I started with the lightest colours and worked my way through to the darker colours.

Then I used an old credit card to add some black paint swipes. When this was all dry I used a honeycomb stamp with Ranger Archival ink pads (black, green and pink). I'm loving using Archival ink pads at the moment as they are permanent ink and perfect for art journalling. Next I added some splatters of carbon black Liquitex ink and lime Tattered Angels chalkboard glimmermist

Next I stamped a variety of Jane Davenport Mermaid stamps on a scrap piece of paper that I had been swiping excess paints on. I cut these out along with a seaweed shape to place on my page.

Here is my finished page. I also added some Tim Holtz small talk stickers - my fav stickers!!

Here is a close up of my mermaid peeking out from behind the seaweed. I also added some sparkly glitter glue in places.

Since I was having so much fun with these colours I made a second page. This time in my Small Dylusions journal

I started by covering my pages with the Peony blush and Vanilla custard Dylusions paints, then adding swipes of Rose quartz, Mushy Peas, Laidback Lilac, and Periwinkle blue

Then I used an old credit card to add some black paint swipes. When this was all dry I used various stamps with Ranger Archival ink pads (black, green and pink). Next I added some splatters of carbon black Liquitex ink and lime Tattered Angels chalkboard glimmermist .

Next I stamped a Jane Davenport Mermaid stamp on my page and highlighted parts with sparkly glitter glue. I added some Tim Holtz small talk stickers under my mermaid then added some marks across my page with Posca paint pens

Thanks so much for stopping by

Quick Arty Gifts for Those You Love

Bonjour Bloggers, Lisa here with a Friday mixed media update.
Today I am sharing with you a couple of note books
that I have thrown together as a gift for 2 very special young ladies.
At present we have a guest with us who we haven't seen for 20 years.
Thank goodness the internet and telephones have kept us connected.

I wanted to create something for his girls that was a little arty,
but a physical item that could be a part of their everyday,
and to hopefully instill a love of arty life journaling as well.

Starting, I purchased a note book from Kmart, and gave it a coat of Gesso.
Then added a few strips of gelli plate tissue paper from my random paper stash.
A little Dylusions and  DWM paint and applying stencil imaging and script stamping.
A few random dashes in black posca and then it's ready for another layer of goodness.

I stamped a Peace sign using black Stazon ink and added the bold black paint to add drama.
A floral paper cut out from a Heidi Swapp Die Cut paper pack,
introduced a softness and extra focal element.

Then it's all about this cool flower power photo of the girls.
I used Matte Medium to adhere it to the cover,
then a little more DWM paint to tie the elements together.
A name/title in AC thickers, strips of beautiful blue flocked pattern paper,
and some sweet flowers (a gift from our guest, he so knows me).

To finish I will coat the whole piece in Vicki Bouton gel medium
to give overall support to the piece and elements used.

I applied the same formula to this one.

But for this one,
I cut the star out of the photo and
placed her into the celestial universe.

These cool Kinder Kreations chipboard stars added
a supporting element to the cover of Juliette's journal.
I felt like she got a little lost on the cover so I painted a gorgeous Kinder Kreations frame in
I then coloured in around our focal point using a pink Posca.
Enamel dots, a charms creations felt star, and a few details finished this piece.

Now I'm off to the Australian Reptile Park to snap
some interactive kangaroo photos with our wonderful Belgian guest.
I'll be back next Friday with a new mixed media update.
Have a creative crafty weekend.

How I Layered Up this Art Journal Page - A quick Step by Step.

Howdy Bloggers, Lisa here with a quick Friday mixed media update.

I love, when I'm creating, to add different layers to art journal pages.
It creates interest within the details and adds depth to every piece.
Today I'm sharing with you a fun step by step Art Journal page
that I completed yesterday, during a much needed down day.

Here is the piece.
Titled - I can't help it.

Here is what I did to create this page.

Using a small Dylusions Journal,
two hand carved stamps images applied using StazOn black ink
and a soft red Prismacolour pencil, I created a simple starting point.

"it's more about doing, rather than the end result, just play and float into your mojo"

Next a layer of paint.
Dina Wakley Media Sky and Lime .
A few scraps of off cut Atlas papers and Jane Davenport paint swatch paper

A little liquitex white gesso and a few lined details, with a black Fudeball pen,
to bring focus to the stamped leaf image and create focal points within the page.

I wanted to introduce a few colourful marks,
so I added a few dashes randomly with an orange Tim Hotlz Distress marker

Now adding some Dina Wakley black paint to bring contrast and drama to the piece.
With a DWM stencil rubbed back, to take off the black paint from the page to reveal the pattern.

A this point I added colour to the leaves with a little Dylusions bubble gum pink acrylic paint,
a few leaves cut from an old piece of Basic Grey pattern paper, and
little detailing on the leaves with a white Posca pen.

To finish off, some some journaling with my trusty Fudeball,
a complete edging of black ink to the page and a flick of white paint
applied using a flooded white Posca.

Thanks for dropping by the blog, I'll be back next week with a fun update.
After a few days of recharge, visiting Galleries and
cafes in Sydney with my partner in Epic Adventures Peg.

Have a fun creative week artisans.

Smells like Teen Spirit . - A Circle Art Journal Swap

Howdy Folks , Lisa here with a Friday Mixed media update .
I've been a bit slack at keeping up with the last of the SC Circle Journal swaps journals.
But Today I can happily say that I only have one left to do and
Ill be handing yours back to you next month Bec and that will complete the whole group..
I'm lucky enough to have mine already, but these 2 journals just have just been playing with me somewhat .. when I get a journal in my hands , I need time to ponder over the theme and then to think about the page and what I want to do with it . I really want to connect to the theme and relate to what the sender is trying to get from those in the circle . its not just about slapping stuff down , its about thinking and putting my love and heart into the work.
I found this old  Who Magazine (circa 1994 ),while clearing stuff recently ,
and the hoarder in me couldn't throw it out..
Stoked I didn't, as I had an epiphany and let loose on this baby .
I attempted to make a Kurt Cobain Stencil, which worked out ... sort of ok ,
but I felt it didn't define him enough, and it was a little to big for the page,so that idea got ditched.
I do love making my own hand cut stencils, as they are super easy to make ,especially when you use the rad Crafters Workshop Stencil Blanks that come in a 3 pack. I just trace my image and cut out the elements with a sharp craft knife . so easy .
Back to the drawing board.
I made up another piece of folded cardstock  and adhered that to the journal , to add extra room for me to work on and to allow space for the CD to go into the journal.... you cant have a Circle Journal about music go around and NOT have some music to play with it ..
I do consider music to be one  of the most amazing forms of inspiration for creative flow .
I started with a simple Brickwork stencil patterned background and then ,
using the FINELINER Masking Fluid I scratched in "Smells like Teen Spirit ".
After it was completely dry , I covered the whole written area ,
with black paint and  again allowed the paint to dry completely .
Then , using my finger I rubbed over the words and removed the masking fluid ,
leaving the words the exposed and revealing the painted background underneath. Such a cool result .
I then added to the background and title with a little Posca detail, a couple of stickers,
 stamping and some extra doodling....

Within the Journal , I have included a Cd from my band of choice and in laid the actually cd and booklet from the CD into a pocket , with the left overs ,
I cut them to add interest and extra detail to my piece.
This is what it ended up like . I am very much hoping that Rachel
will think that this was worth the wait .

Do you have a favorite song ?, Is it even possible to pick just one ?
Or have you joined in on a circle swap before ..?
they are so much fun to participate in..
Apologies again to those 2 remaining ladies waiting ..
lucky they love me ,otherwise , I would be in strife . hahahaahaaa.
Posting this baby today ..
Ill be back next week with a little more mixed media inspiration.
Thanks for dropping by .
