"This Special Moment" by Melinda

Hi! It's my turn to share with you what I came up with using the April moodboard. And just as a refresher, here it is again :)

I have to be honest here and say that I did struggle a little with the board as it is so purple heavy and if you know me, you know I am not a purple fan! However, once I got over my initial trepidation and all that purple I took a closer look and saw that gorgeous gold, the blues and aquas and funnily enough the "tea" in the tea cup reminded me of a sunset. I have a stack of photographs from our wedding (April 2008) which include sunset photos on the beach. I pulled out my photos and narrowed my selection down to 2 of my very faves as they worked best with the collection I had on hand to work with which is the Time Machine by Kaisercraft.

Here is my completed page and after much umming and ahhing and "I'm not really sure-ing", as this is not a collection I would grab for myself, I am really, really pleased with how this page turned out! I enjoyed the challenge of working with something outside of my norm with both the collection and the moodboard.

The photo's were looking a bit flat on the page without the mixed media so taking inspiration again from the moodboard and the photos I pulled out my navy colour shine after I applied a very light coat of gesso in the background and using the handy packaging technique I applied some colour to my background behind all the papers and acetate layers (I just love that pop of gold on the acetate in the background!). I then used the awesome stamp set from the same collection to add a little bit of interest using the Heidi Swapp navy stamp pad. Just as a side note, I noticed that the paper didn't stand up too well to the wet mediums so I did have to mount this completed page on another 12x12 paper.

Once my big layers were down and the photos on top I started embellishing. I used the Time Machine collectables pack and a border sticker from the 12x12 sticker sheet in the collection pack.

To finish the page off and bring it all together I grabbed my hot pink colour shine to make some sprinkles in the embellishment clusters.

Like I said earlier, this is totally different for me but I am so pleased with how it turned out so if you are thinking "Ah, I really dont like purple" take another look at that mood board and see what else you can see, you may find yourself with an awesome $20 gift certificate to the store for your efforts!

Thats it for me for today, happy scrapping and I'll be back shortly with another project using this range!
